The “Men writing women” subreddit are about sentences. “Women writing men”? They’re entire novels.

Of course don’t just ask the engineer. Any piece of code written by the engineer should ultimately be tested by a separate testing team before getting pushed to production. Ideally you have a performance and regression testing team that would help evaluate the changes being introduced and how it compares with the existing.
There are ways to know. Did the manager ask for proof of concept? Asked for performance tests of the update and compared it to existing/baseline?
Technical managers exist. Yes, it’s a manager’s responsibility to understand the field he’s working in. He doesn’t need to be a more skilled engineer, but he needs to understand what his/her people are saying.
Fire the manager too.
Yes, but more competent, not cleverer. Some managers aren’t fit to be in IT.

Technology@lemmy.world•Windows 11's adoption is much slower compared to Windows 10, claims DellEnglish
4·1 month agoFor almost 20 years, I’ve never lost hours of work due to the OS. The Crowdstrike incident was one of three times I was interrupted by the OS in the last 2,3 years. All of the interruptions are from Windows 11, not 10. This week for, for some reason, Windows is slower to respond than usual, when going to different tasks. I’m one formatting away from getting rid of the Windows 11 in my laptop. I was thinking of dual booting Mint there but it’s looking more and more I don’t need Windows. Bazzite has been fantastic.
Twitter is still popular. Most people are just never going to leave it. I don’t think they care either way whether the location feature exposed anything or not. Musk gets people talking about his platform and that’s all he cares about. Most people are like leftists. They will complain about things, but won’t really do anything productive to help realize meaningful changes.

Science Memes@mander.xyz•Everyone's got a fetish, I guess.English
7·1 month agoWho better to come up with a scale than a connoisseur.
With guitars, lately it’s been about made in the US/Japan/Europe vs Made in Mexico/China/Korea, or digital vs solid-state vs tubes, but essentially the same. Everyone’s being marketed to, and it doesn’t matter which you choose, you will end up spending just as much money. Best thing to do is get the gear you like, and spend time with said gear(/get off the net and marketplace). Not different from gaming.
Any hobby that costs money will have factions. Camera gear has your Sony vs Nikon vs Canon, you have Android vs Apple for mobile phones, etc. The more money you spend, the more you speak out against other choices. As evidenced by this post, PC parts cost a lot of money…

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If AI was all it was cracked up to be, it wouldn't be shoved in your face 24/7
1·2 months agoI transport you to the time of NFTs and crypto. Not all tech will pan out. Computers and the internet fundamentally worked. LLMs have flaws that look like they will not be solved before funding runs out. They are already looking into going public for funding. LLMs are not deterministic models. AI in general will progress and it will have its time to shine. But the LLM breakthrough we had recently has peaked. It needs to be supplemented with something else.

Technology@lemmy.world•New Study: At Least 15% of All Reddit Content is Corporate Trolls Trying to Manipulate Public OpinionEnglish
22·2 months ago- Post problem with product that’s not really a problem.
- People instinctively express their dislike of the product.
- Corporate troll posts solution, or inconsistencies with the post. “I’m not really a fan of ___ but this is a you problem. They even have a feature to help with such a problem. You people are overreacting. Did you even read the article? You losers should get a life.”.
- People are now discouraged to express problems with product, even getting sold on a feature.

2·2 months agoIf I were Microsoft, this is exactly how I would convince users that Copilot is totally okay. Say something that’s worse than what they’re doing and then debunk that. At least MS is not spying on my games! You guys are just blowing things out of proportion.

Games@lemmy.world•More than 1,200 games journalists have left the media in the last two years | VGCEnglish
11·2 months agoThere are still Youtubers out there motivated by the same engagement goals as gaming journalists. Both need you to click the link. With Youtubers, you can at least identify what games they like, and would know more about those specific type of games.

Technology@lemmy.ml•No account? No Windows 11 for you, says Microsoft
5·3 months agoThe meat of the work Valve did was with the compatibility layer, not SteamOS itself. This means you can choose any distro you’re comfortable with and games will work as well as they do in SteamOS. I recommend Bazzite.

If someone from the right had said this, you would think they’re irrational cultists just trying to support their cult. I used to think the left is the way to go, but after coming here, not so much.
