I’m kind of with you on Jujutsu Kaisen. Really the only reason I watch it is because of the animation quality.
!animation@lemm.ee is doing pretty well. We’re close to a thousand subscribers. One thing I’ve noticed is that even on the occasional days where there are no new posts, we’re consistently getting new subscribers. I’m guessing it’s a testament to the staying power of certain posts and also the fact that the community is pretty high up in various animation/anime/cartoon related directories.
It’s something that’s made me more comfortable with going a day or even multiple days without a new post whereas in the past I would desperately search for anything remotely relevant to post and sometimes find myself a little burnt out because of that. Now, not only are there a decent number of other regular posters but I don’t really freak out too much if I can’t find anything compelling and relevant to post.
lol, just salt on the wound
Fellowship of the Ring
To clarify. I love the movie, but I also can’t escape the fact that like 90% of it became memed like crazy.
Haha, yeah that is ridiculous. To be fair, it’s said by someone who’s basically a Silicon Valley CEO who’s like a zealot. I don’t think it’s meant to be taken fully seriously.
Pantheon is awesome. It’s based on Ken Liu’s work who’s a pretty great scifi/fantasy author.
Mars Express is a french movie from last year that’s sort of like a film noir scifi. I’ve heard the english dub is quite good if you don’t want to deal with subtitles for some reason.
Secret Level and Love, Death & Robots are anthologies of mostly scifi stories.
The Star Wars animated works are all solid if you’re interested in more scifantasy.
Common Side Effects is very Scavenger’s Reign-esque in art style and animation. Which makes sense considering many of the same artists worked on both. It’s not really scifi in the same level though I still would recommend checking it out.
There’s also a lot of really good high concept Scifi anime.
So unbearably dumb. Giving a Looney Tunes movie less than a week in theaters after basically not advertising it at all. Honestly, Warner Bros is just hopeless at this point.
Finished Invincible S3. They really upped the animation quality for the last 2 episodes. I think as a whole I liked this season more than season 2, but it still has some structural issues that keep it from being as good as the first.
This is an unfortunate limitation of Lemmy that doesn’t appear to have any really solution coming in the near future. I don’t consider marking it as NSFW as an appropriate solution (open to discussion about this).
I let it through because personally I view it as a very minor spoiler from a couple of out of context frames. In my mind it’s less of a spoiler than an episode synopsis. Of course that’s just my opinion and some people despise synopsis as well. If the majority here feels that a post like this should be deleted or marked as NSFW then I’m fine with that. Please feel free to make a meta post about it here and the community can discuss what does or doesn’t constitute spoilers and how to best approach image spoilers. There might also be additional solutions that I am unaware of.
Awful news.
Seems like this is a first domino to fall as a direct result of the pandemic. Really sad news for the thousands of people losing their jobs.
Just finished Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Really enjoyed it overall even though it took me a little bit to get used to the art style. Highly recommend for anyone remotely interested.
Definitely focused on kids I think. Maybe it’ll be like She-ra where adults can also get something good out of it.
I’ve heard really good things about Apothecary Diaries and will probably check it out.
I think it was very interesting and really liked a lot of the setup and character but it was too short to really develop its ideas. I remember feeling the finale was rushed and not really understanding it
Unfortunately I agree with you. I still have great love for Arcane and season 1 is one of my favourite seasons of a show (animated or otherwise) ever and I was really looking forward to season 2. But S2 is definitely a step down in terms of writing.
Yes! Excellent show so far.
S2 is an improvement across the board from S1 imo. The pacing especially is a lot better. Far from perfect, but a solid and fun season. I still don’t really understand the night creatures but I guess that’s a pretty minor part of the show.
I’m also someone who’s not as enamored with the first Castlevania show as a lot of people so in general I think season 2 of Nocturne is about on the same level as most of the original show.
Marathoned season 2 of Castlevania Nocturne this weekend. It’s pretty solid, a definite upgrade from season 1.
This is a good reminder for me that I should get around to watching Heavy Metal 2000 at some point.
What did you think of Justice League Crisis on Infinite Earths pt 1? Personally I thought it was mediocre but I liked the Barry and Iris plotline.
