It’s a position of power, which attracts the type of person who gets off on having power over people. As a bonus, they get to project all of their racist fears onto people, then punish them for it. It’s basically like being a cop, except I imagine they don’t need to pass any sort of physical test to get in.
I have to go to America soon - I can’t decide whether I should tell them to get fucked if they ask to search my phone (aka politely decline so they don’t shoot me), or if I should just open this comment for them.
It turns out if a country causes turmoil in other nations, and constantly uses violent and dismissive rhetoric, other countries will talk shit about them 100% of the time. However, believe it or not, not everyone who says they would celebrate if Trump died is a terrorist. Most are just normal people with a functioning moral compass.
At the end of the day, searching phones just makes people uninstall apps or being different phones. At this point everyone is aware it could happen, so there is virtually no chance of catching anything actually illegal as no one would be stupid enough to unlock their phone if there was something incriminating on it. It basically just highlights America for the fascist asshole it is.
