What a depressing view of people.
As a therapist working with a philosophy of individual empowerment, and seeing it work every day, I’m glad to have my view of life.
It’d suck to feel like we’re all just like plastic bags being blown about in the winds of fate!

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•People around the world are trying to learn English because it's the Lingua Franca, but imagine if the Lingua Franca of the world was a Tonal Language and the writing system was Logographic.
1·5 hours agoI suspect if China wanted to impose a Lingua Franca on the world, they’d be pragmatic about it and invent something the world could learn and accept.
They seem to be very outcome focused rather than worrying about how they get there.
I have the empirical and theoretical evidence to prove that wrong.
Everybody is self made, not everyone will admit it or recognise it.
Off all the factors that govern our lives, from the circumstances of our birth, to random chance and our daily routines… Nothing in our lives has a bigger impact on who we are as a person than the choices we make.
They can make you cum with this one weird trick!
I can make financial security happen by my own efforts.
True Love has been more elusive because it’s one order of magnitude more complicated!

There’s a test I’d like to run.
Over a large and varied population, are unclean meats tastier or not?
Every male lead in a SciFi?
Even Picard was getting it on.
If you take their answer as “historical precedent that’s never been overturned” then it makes sense, And the question becomes “why did it get overturned for pigs and catfish?”

2·4 days agoI love the idea of a pet fox but I feel it raises serious ethical considerations…
But then I wonder if it’s that different to a pet dog or cat. And it is but its hard to name why!

WTF are they selling?

2·4 days agoThat’s a subjective evaluation, noteworthyness or level of interest depends on the reader, not the topic.
I personally find it as interesting as hearing how moths adapt their camouflage to match pollution or how a new species of lemur is emerging from deforestation.
These all seem to me like things it’s better to know, than to not know about.
Though in this case, I do have my doubts that the people doing the study and the journalist reporting it had the same Nobel goals.

71·4 days agoSelective pressures from other species is a natural part of evolution.
So are humans. Just because we’re a powerful species doesn’t make us an exception to nature

I’m aware that some people choose to take that view, which I find ironic!
