Yes, I am an admin here on Lemmy.World, and this is about the Lemmy.World community.
One thing I’m hoping to discuss with new mod(s) is making it more clear to the community here that Lemmy.World has nothing to do (outside of this community) with perchance, as we receive occasional support requests regarding the perchance site, which of course we have nothing to do with. :)
We’re glad to have this community here, mind!

Very carefully :)

I have added you as mod here. Do feel free to remove this post, or leave it if you want to see if others might volunteer to mod with you - as you wish. :)
Thank you for volunteering!

I did end up going with the other volunteer, but it sounds like that might appreciate a helpinf hand - would you mind if I appointed you underneath them to help mod here?

Sorry for the delay, my inbox is overflowing right now. d’oh!
Would you like me to add the other volunteer from this thread? I’m glad to do so. Typically a single mod is sufficient for most communities, however it never hurts to have more than one, for sure. :)
I’d be happy to add them if you’d like :)

NOTE: @[email protected] will be staying on as mod, but we’re hoping to get 1-2 or so more volunteers to help process reports in a timely manner :)

Nope, the community has no moderator.
However, admins have access to reports. And if it’s on Lemmy.World, I have started looking for such communities using a tool I wrote, which I hope will also make it easier for admins to monitor which subs aren’t handling reports in a timely manner.
We have some others who have already put time and effort into working on monitoring that sort of thing, but I’m hoping to improve our response times.
We are generally seeking volunteers to moderator - who will handle reports hopefully daily, but definitely almost-daily. It requires occasionally dealing with folks being nasty, making sure posts and comments do fit the rules of the community as well as the instance Terms of Service. It’s not a lot of work, but most people don’t want to do it (which is fine).
Even if a lemming doesn’t wish to moderatoe, however, honest and legitimate reports of rule-breaking posts and comments are appreciated. It’s how we can eliminate the bad things from Lemmy.

https://mony.world/ exists, hosted by us, if you want to play with it. (I wasn’t involved in the setup, so can’t answer much about it)
As someone not fond of Discord, it seems pretty decent and pretty Discord-like.

I’ve PMd your lemmy.world account a couple of times. lol. But th basic idea is: I’m working through the process on other requested communities, they’re almost certainly going to you in a few days. :)

I considered you a strong candidate, but ultimately went with the other volunteer. Thank you for volunteering!

I’ve added you as moderator. If you ever need a hand, poke me and I’d be willing to be a mod underneath you to help out, or even just temporarily step in to help. But as you’re an experienced mod, I doubt you’d need or want my help - but this is one of those communities I do care about, so am willing. :)
Thank you for volunteering!
It sounds like you are going through an incredibly dark and difficult time right now. Please know that even when things feel completely overwhelming and isolating, there are people who care and want to support you through this pain. Help is available.
There are free and confidential services ready to listen and support you immediately. In the United States and Canada, you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. If you are in the United Kingdom, you can call 111 for support or 999 in an emergency. In Australia, Lifeline can be reached at 13 11 14. For most countries in Europe, dialing 112 will connect you directly to emergency support. If you are located elsewhere in the world, you can visit findahelpline.com to easily locate crisis services specific to your region. Please reach out to one of these resources.
If y’all make this an active community, it looks like the existing moderator is inactive, so to folks here: You should consider volunteering to moderate if the need arises.
I’m gonna keep an eye out on this community to see if you all make it a thing, and if you do, I’ll see if the current mod is active (but they haven’t said anything in a few years - this is a common issue on lemmy and we’re used to fixing it).
Just wanted to stop in and say hello - and hope to see another community take off again. I’ve seen several like this - someone makes a thread, people pop up and start contributing. It’s a beautiful thing to watch. :) And I’m here to support y’all if it happens.

Do not use ableist slurs on Lemmy.World.

Note: There were multiple reports from a post back in September where someone was being a troll and uncivil in that thread. That user ONLY posted in this community. I have permanently banned them from the community.
Feminism can be a hot topic. It’s hard enough for me, as a man, and I consider myself a feminist. We all have slightly different views, so even before trolls come in, things can get tense sometimes.
What I would humbly request:
I would hope that anyone volunteering to moderate will do so with those as guiding principles as well. :)

Lemmy design choice, not .world :)

Yep, lemmy dev wheelhouse not mine, and I will say that one of the nice things about being an admin is that I can see deleted items - for a while until they’re permanently deleted. heh.
Design philosophy… I find it irritating that the comments I delete are still out there at all, so I’ve gotten in the habit of editing then deleting them.
The flip side - if we’re comparing Lemmy to Reddit though - is that scoring you see is not fudged, and you can see your votes happen in real time. If there’s a delay in applying the vote, the spinny stays until it happens. With reddit, I’d refresh to make sure my upvote stuck because a lot of times it didn’t, just silently fail, and that was irritating.
So it just comes down to different devs making different choices, I suppose.

Just to confirm, deleted by the creator. (excessive blurring just as a habit since the author chose to delete it)

I see you have started a number of communities and you’re a new member. There’s no rules against this, but I do hope you might take the time to grow the communities you’ve started. You’re taking on a lot of committment, or perhaps creating a lot of spaces that will join the many dead spaces we already have.
I’m not telling you not to do this, I’m just hoping you realize that creating communities is by far the easiest part.
