Canada@lemmy.ca•Federal budget promises legislation to accelerate Alto high-speed rail projectEnglish
3·26 days agoGood point, though it feels like there’s already uncertainty being stoked in the media questioning how much longer this government will last in power. I don’t think that was even the case under Trudeau when he got his last minority government with much fewer seats than Carney.
Suffice to say, I really want to see some ground breaking on the project but I won’t hold high hopes until we get to that point.
Yeah, I feel this so hard. I only got diagnosed with ADHD in my mid 20s and now just starting the process of getting assessed for Autism.
It’s been a rough childhood with my family taking the route of learning through negative reinforcement, which did not feel consistent and sometimes the punishment was sometimes spaced far enough in time from when I did a bad thing that I didn’t know what I was being punished for sometimes. It also didn’t help that I got bullied a lot in school if I’m just not left alone, sometimes even initiated by staff too (not the teachers).
I’ve only found my childhood psychologist report recently that I was recommended to get tested for a condition that has long since been rolled into the autism spectrum.
The funny thing is my family didn’t want me to “catch” autism so I never got assessed.
Now I get to maybe be diagnosed AND work on the issues I have from what I used to think was all my fault, that I was lazy, etc etc.
Good fun! /s

Canada@lemmy.ca•Federal budget promises legislation to accelerate Alto high-speed rail projectEnglish
132·28 days agoI’ll believe it when the contracts are signed and shovels are in the ground. With a minority Liberal government, I have a hard time believing it’s going to happen.
It’s good to hear progress, but unless the Liberals maintain power, there’s still too much uncertainty if it’ll take off.

2·1 month agoNot by much. Doug at least sometimes walks back on his poor decisions when enough pressure mounts, but he’ll still appease his donors by fucking the people one way or another.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.ca•The hidden cost driving up housingEnglish
6·1 month agoDevelopment fees don’t go towards road infrastructure, they go towards upgrading the local infrastructure to handle the new influx of residents.
I don’t agree about the development fees covering those costs, but homeowners go absolutely ballistic about rising property taxes

Canada Post@lemmy.ca•The privatization crisis at Canada PostEnglish
3·1 month agoThat sounds like a good idea, essentially pivoting Canada Post towards a communications service model, which could actually help improve the infrastructure in this country compared to giving the big 3 handouts to hopefully improve infrastructure which hasn’t been working.

4·2 months agoIt feels a bit weird but unsurprising seeing Ontario be at moderate risk. Then again, the current government has 0 interest in trans issues (at least to move in a positive direction)

5·2 months agoTo be fair, at least with a lot of games I play, the task is usually persistently displayed on screen and there’s either some type/combo of guided navigation, quest marker or glowing thing highlighting the thing you need to do/interact with.
Then again, I still get distracted with side quests/shiny things but much easier to get back on task when the information and optional guidance is right there
Having the minimum wage be indexed to inflation was a really nice start for the provinces that have it.
Now, minimum wage STILL isn’t enough and there really should be another big bump to bring it in line with the average cost of living at the least. The only concern with this fight to finally bring minimum wage up to the average cost of living is that gives an opportunity for inflation indexing to be dropped with that minimum wage bump which would eventually bring us back to square one like how past minimum wage bumps were before tying to inflation
That’s so relatable, though the schools I’ve been to didn’t have swings so I settled for just sitting in random patches of grass or just playing with my own imagination if the mood hit some days.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Government of Canada instructs Canada Post to begin transformation - Canada.caEnglish
4·2 months agoThat’s totally false that the community mailbox moratorium is just to protect the jobs of mail carriers.
Community mailboxes were a hot topic issue in the lead up to the 2015 Federal election with residents of the proposed conversions complaining about how difficult it will be to take more than one step out the door to get their mail.
With the Liberals promising a stop to the conversions, Canada Post paused the plans after they won the election

Toronto@lemmy.ca•Toronto gets a failing grade for housing starts so far in 2025, new report saysEnglish
2·2 months agoIt’s like deferring all housing construction to for-profit developers has been failing even with incentives and subsidies in the form of tax breaks.
Without any involvement from the public sector to build government subsidized housing and lacking financial supports to create new non-profit coops, there is simply no incentive for the private sector to build housing that’s affordable.

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•China’s EV Fire Fix Shoots Battery Into Traffic And Makes It Their ProblemEnglish
7·2 months agoWhile it’s at best a hazard for a battery to eject on an urban highway, this would be really bad if it happened on a busy city street or even start forest fires in rural/heavily forested areas.
I hope they go back to the drawing board
