Poor people don’t bribe the politicians making these decisions, so it’s not in the best interest of the politicians.

mr_account@lemmy.worldto ADHD@lemmy.world•... and then try studying for somethingEnglish15·9 days agoMy ADHD makes it so I can’t read books for shit anymore, even though I would go through several every week as a kid. For anyone else having this problem, one thing that sometimes helps me is to listen to someone read the text while reading along. This could be an audiobook, but there’s also an extension for Firefox called “Read Aloud: A Text to Speech Voice Reader” to get through pdf files.
With CS/IT, there have been tens of thousands of layoffs every month (in the US alone) for nearly 3 years straight. Too few jobs with everyone having to compete with new grads and all of those hit by layoffs equals a shit situation all around. I’m hoping to pivot into something like bioinformatics which, for the moment, still looks potentially promising as a job prospect.
Certainly not going all the way to PHD, but I might have the opportunity to go for Master’s on a grant that waives tuition. Not sure what else to do right now since graduating with a CS degree in this tech market has been a dumpster fire…
As someone who might be going to grad school soon to wait out this bullshit job market…ouch

Tax the fuckers

I forget where I heard the idea from, but I remember someone coming up with a similar idea, just way more sinister. Basically you get a bunch of these really cheap, battery operated speakers like they mention in the comic, but you put sounds on them like creepy children laughing or ghostly noises that are juuuuust loud enough to hear. Set them to have very long timers at random intervals, and scatter them inside someone’s air vents

I’ve been convinced that scripts for several big budget films over the last few years have already been written by LLMs. Scripts for things like The Marvels and the last 2 Mission Impossible films (just the first couple that immediately come to mind) are stream-of-consciousness slop with inconsistent logic, jargon that makes no god damn sense, side characters and tangents that come out of nowhere and do nothing, and really forced 'member berries, because as Jay from RLM puts it; “nostalgia is the new cocaine!”
Title’s been outdated for a while now. It’s 5+ years
