I know we have our complaints about the browser, but I liked this one :)
Lmao, they got chuck testa, i wonder how his business doing.
never
I have to keep a version of Chrome around because Firefox refuses to support or won’t support web USB. But other than that my daily driver is Zen. Firefox based. And I wouldn’t trade it.
I do this too, but I can very much respect the decision not to support any kind of hardware-level access from a web browser.
To an extent sure. But if their adding some ai MCP server to the browser etc. It’s going to be way more dangerous. So for me at least of kind of a wash.
basically same here
Yes Firefox has pretty much been my daily driver since before it was called Firefox. And the UI overhaul in zen definitely elevates it. I wish the Mozilla Foundation was less focused on AI and advertisement bullshit and more focused on things like UI improvements or web USB support etc. The underlying engine is pretty decent. But it’s the foundations behavior that really makes it not viable for a lot of people.
same here & couldn’t agree more
Why… Why would you?
I mean rhetorical, but god why. I want many layers between me and any internet browser.
Not OP, but it’s insanely useful for microcontroller stuff
Was part of a team who created an esp32 based gadget for “regular” people at a convention, and it was super easy to set up a website that reflashed the device if they wanted to change something or messed something up
No need for users to install weird sdks, tool chains or using a terminal
This. I have installed wled via espressifs ide and tools. It’s disable. A lot more work.
I’m all for the isolation and such. It absolutely shouldn’t be avalible to just any website. But comparatively it’s way easier.
HDR still not added unless you’re a Mac user, stereo audio only.
Good to know as well. I don’t have a use case myself so I never bumped into it.
How do you do fellow
kidsadults? The Internet you loved is still here.
No it isn’t. The internet I loved is long-since dead. This is the same shit internet. Firefox doesn’t magically bring you to a wondrous new world of memes, and sites can still collect enough data on your device usage to build massive advertising profiles for you, despite what one may have convinced themselves of with a plethora of extensions. Also feels weird calling out browsers with built-in AI, considering the CEO’s dreams to integrate AI even deeper into Firefox.
It’s a cute ad, but the core messaging is flawed.
While Firefox alone doesn’t transport you to that internet, I think the point is that browsers like Firefox are one of the pieces that makes up that older experience. Fediverse being another, I would say a lot of us are here because we remember this style of social media.
They have improved the intentionality of the AI features, I wish they had it opt-out and easily configurable from the start. I moved to Zen a while back (which still relies on Firefox pushing out updates)
Great ad! But here I am on Chrome and Edge with zero adverts, even on YouTube. (I know, tracking is a thing.)
I don’t even know how I killed YT adverts. My Pihole?
I’ve been ride or die with FF since before Chrome was a thing. I keep Vivaldi installed for a few things, but FF is my daily driver.
I know that Mozilla has made some decisions that I don’t agree with, but the Internet would be worse off without FF.
Try waterfox.
Same even on Android. If a site doesn’t work well with FF, Vivaldi usually works. Vivaldi is also better for PWAs.
PWAs

Progressive Web App, basically a webpage built with html/css/js/etc but designed to act more as an application.
Firefox is controlled opposition for Chrome so that Google can claim they aren’t a monopoly in the browser scene. It’s why Mozilla always makes stupid decisions in spite of making an otherwise quality browser software.
The internet of the past also didn’t need 4GB of RAM to render a page.
Firefox is pretty great, but I prefer privacy and security by default, which is why I run librewolf only over VPN. I could go TOR, but man that’s a pain.
It’s a great ad! Sadly the underlying message is simply not true. Regardless of the browser you use (and I do use firefox) the old internet is no longer there. Now it’s just four apps full of brain dead content. It’s quite sad actually. Loved the video though, it made me smile :_)
It’s still there, folks have just gotten so used to using those same four shit apps that they forgot how to surf the web.
Check out my Myspace page, while you’re there you can find me on Digg and google video! /s
I used to read a lot of comics on the internet, pretty sure I hit mid to high 60s of bookmarks. 80% of them no longer exist.
Even the newer sites for things like finding niche products have been wiped, I used Massdrop for an age to get some good tech, now its owned by corsair and sells absofuckinglutely nothing.
The modern rules of the internet are “If it doesnt make more money than god then it’s not worth shit, if it does, then it’s bought out by a shady conglomerate then used to harvest your data”
You say, while adding content to an alternative part of the internet!
I don’t know, small personal websites and webrings are having a bit of a comeback. Federated networks are humming along ,if not growing. AI is, ironically, making it much easier for people to build their own tools and ditch SaaS.
I still have hope for a decentralization comeback.
God remember the newground days? When that was a “giant?” What a time.
The old internet is still around. It just doesn’t show very high on most search engines because of SEO bullshittery
I started blocking sites like Facebook, Amazon, Instagram and every AI slop in my search results and it made everything so much better.
Some money for Laina. Nice!
I see Laina, I updoot. I see praise or well-wishing for Laina, I updoot.
Omg, shoes
Let’s party
I like the way Tay Zonday moved away from the mic (to breathe in).
And Firefox has a cousin called Librewolf that you can check out for more privacy.
Maybe questionably truthful.
But at this point, I’d settle for a not-Cyberpunk future. The prospect of a total Chrome monopoly horrifies me, hence I’m all for this ad.
