I have these red/yellow bumps on my tongue that hurt, along with this white patch under my tongue that hurts.

I had coxsackievirus mid August and only had one sore way further back in my throat. I know there’s more than one strain, but could I really get it again so soon? I don’t think this is what’s causing it this time.

Chick peas, and green leafy salads with vegetables are regular parts of my diet, so probably not folate defficiency. I eat chicken, pork, and beef regularly too, so I don’t think it’s B-12 deficiency either.

It’s been like this for a week. Should I start with a visit to my PCP, or seek out a specific type of specialist to get some help?

Appreciate your best guesses and opinions?

It does look like it too me, the tongue idk but the ulcer under your tongue looks like what I get. These come in waves for me, I think citrus acid is a big trigger for me, also seltzer, which has carbolic acid. I don’t know that for sure but I do think those are my biggest triggers.

Also the more dry my mouth gets the more likely I get them. They last about 2-3 weeks for me with week 2 being the worst of it. I find as I get older (43 now) the severity of them (in terms of pain) can be a lot worse than before. I started keeping Kanka and Orajel mouth wash around to ease the pain when I have them.

I also bite my cheeks or lips a lot especially when sleeping and I think somethimes that can lead to issues. But frankly, I’m not sure. Times of stress potentially, random times I sleep while breathing out of my mouth, or just plain bad luck.

I did switch up my toothpaste to one with minimal ingredients, which did seem to help. But frankly nothing has been a “fix” it’ll be fine for me for a while them bam I’ll get ‘em. They suck 😢.

My understanding is they may be linked to other issues at times but largely they are just a problem for some people. I don’t think doctors really offer much help unless there is some other underlying cause I suppose. A dentist will screen for oral cancer and whatnot but I don’t think ulcers are really related. I’ve had my dentist see them and be like “oh yeah I see you have ulcers” and that was that. None of this is medical advice just my experience. When the pain breaks it sure is a nice day though 🤗

I had a run of bad luck a few years ago, more than usual amount of sores. (1 a year is normalish for me) like 5 back to back including 3 at once. Found that some people have adverse reactions to some ingredients in toothpastes. Namely; Sodium lauryl sulfate. May be worth investigating & switching up if you’re so inclined.

Bumps on the tongue i get from suctioning my mouth in my sleep, and open mouth sleeping dry mouth. I keep water close by and try to sip during sleeping.

I am not a doctor, just anecdotal because I recently dealt with this, and those changes have kept me from having any in a long time.

Warm water with salt helps or go to the store and get a medicine called kanka, its like a dab of honey that numbs the pain and adds a coating to it. I used to get them when i would stress out alot and now i try not to.
