The people keep voting for the wealthy to get even richer, and regression for the majority, stupid choices from stupid people so it won’t change.

Its just a little less expensive than a few days ago. Maybe if we use up all our oil reserves that would be fixed up in no time.

Tbf it is the PHEV and I only drive 4 miles to work.

BYD would be my full EV choice, but you know, American *“free trade market™️”

*free trade not subject to actually being free

Saw a BYD in the wild a few months ago. Mexican family had driven it up into Texas on family road trip.

I got to see the interior. All the extra features. Drives like a dream. It blows out Tesla’s back walls.

Democrats are, if it’s even possible, more beholden to the domestic auto industry than Republicans.

We are never getting a president who will let Chinese EVs into the US.

I was talking to my dad about this, not only is it tons of jobs that the automakers provide, during war time and other extreme times such as covid, automakers can transition to making other things such as ventilators at a rapid pace.

Manufacturing capacity at a domestic level is great.

But when you consider what they’re manufacturing? If it’s all gas guzzling super trucks during a petroleum shortage? Who benefits?

If you know some types of chutney that go well with sourdough rolls I might give it a try. Recently started mixing ground oats in with the bread flour too.

You are spectacularly deficient in searching skills. The title of this chat shows no hint that anyone here would have such information for you. But it is in fact ok for a man to ask for directions so don’t give up. I’m sure you’ll find your way.

I care more about what everybody else has paid for the shit that the elected representatives of Americans are doing with powers given to them and which are widelly supported by Americans (most notably with their Nationalism, Militarism and support for a de facto Oligarchic power system) than I care about the consequences to Americans of their choices even if they disagree with the color of whatever puppet is POTUS.

IMHO most people in the World don’t deserve this shit whilst, only a handful of Americans don’t deserve this shit - even those Americans that didn’t vote for Trump deserve this shit if they’ve been supporting Militarism and interventionism abroad under other Administrations (in other words, pretty much just the anti-War crowd in America who are consistently against in no matter the party in power don’t deserve this shit).

25 years ago, the cheapest gas I bough was $1.05 / gallon. I’m having a hard time thinking of any common products that cost less than 4x as much today.

Solar panels and rechargable batteries (when you consider the production/storage, and not just the cost of a panel or battery)

I’m not saying the commentary on inflation is wrong, but I think it is interesting where we are seeing price increases, vs price decreases.

With the Iraq war they had to come up with all these bullshit excuses and spend a ton of time and effort pushing the propaganda to the public. In a strange way it’s actually better this time that they just said yeah, this war is about oil, look how much money we are making because fuck you, that’s why.

I don’t see Trump telling big oil to sell gas at cost for the foreseeable future so I guess he is fine with the American consumer footing the bill of his war.

He’s always been fine with it.

The rich already have money, they want stuff now. Sure, spend a few million more afford their lifestyles, but they’re fucking billionaires. Meanwhile, everyday people are selling their houses and going back to renting to get by, or their farm goes under and they have to sell. We sell our shit to survive, and the rich buy it up because they are the only people with expendable income. Trump and his cronies found out during the pandemic that harsh times are really good for the ultra-wealthy. The affordability crisis is a bonus feature of his Epstein-files-distraction war.

Wait so does that mean that the true cost only went up by 18 billion.

In a similar vain, demand based pricing makes no sense in a situation like this, a tax does.

When something becomes scarce, it doesn’t increase its cost of production, it just needs to decrease consumption. They do that via a price increase to dissuade demand but pocket the difference.

What makes far more sense is a tax, similar to the carbon tax, that can go up and down based on limited supply or not. It can still reduce demand but the difference is that the extra money spent gets returned to the people.

I still don’t get why people hated the carbon tax so much.

A global crude oil scarcity tax would be a nightmare to implement.

It would be easier to actually tax all that extra profit in a meaningful way.

Not necessarily, that can be local v total final global sales. But yeah the price goes up which doesn’t reflect how’s much the actual cost of getting the gasoline for today specific places was so the oil company just makes more profit.
