We might have the majority, but 2/3 to get any of that done is a lot to ask.

How? Voting can never put the working class in control, no matter how hard we vote. We need revolution in order to actually take control of society. Every major reform, even, has been taken directly because of worker organizing on the ground pressuring the state.

Sometimes solutions aren’t easy. Doesn’t change the fact that they might be necessary.

No, rebel. Resistance is the only way. Refuse to obey the oligarchs and their slavery. This is the way whether you like it or not. Continuing to play pretend in their system and you achieve nothing.

Ahh, yes, the haymarket riot of 1886! I remember reading about how a bunch of pseudo-socialist lemmy users were at the forefront of that major change.

Hey bud. How about you give an example of change YOU took part in and not just sit around pretending the sacrifices others made for you were yours.

And while we’re at it, what union do you belong to?

I think its hilarious when people apply for a permit to protest, then show up and sing songs. Not a single person in power gives it a second thought, it make zero people uncomfortable.

Voting has never, in US history, improved people’s material conditions. Material conditions improved only through violent struggle and community organization. My, how the past has been whitewashed…

You’re right, billionaires are not a monolith. Recent data says about 115 US billionaire families lean toward backing Republicans and the conservative side of issues, while only about 45 back Dems and progressive stands. Your “lol” is not a fact-based argument.

      Put up or shutup.

Apathy posting isn’t “doing something”. It’s doing nothing while trying to claim your intelligence is that much greater than those that DO want change.

You should go vote. It takes very little time/effort. Heres a link to help you.

Then, if you have other things that you want to do to effect change, you can do those too

I read it. The whole thing. It’s flowery language and apathy. It’s edgy with no edge.

Colonization happened HUNDREDS of years before me. I want to be better. I want a system that is better. What are you doing to make it better?

I’m canvassing. I’m helping my neighbor. I’m voting. I’m pushing others to vote. It’s more than just a federal election. It’s a majority of local stuff on my ballot. I’ve seen the changes those votes make.

My wife volunteers at the food bank. We sell eggs too our neighbors at less than cost.

Are these on the ballot? The only thing that will happen on this list if the dems win big is that the GOP will have less power. The Democrats have had the ability to pass all of this before, and chose not to. In fact, they built up a lot of what people oppose now.

Revolution is necessary because the capitalist state itself is not neutral, but a product of the existing economic system and the social relations therein.

Revolution is the only thing that has led to improved material conditions, even in the United States. Did you fall asleep during history class, or has it been so whitewashed and sanitized at this point that people don’t even know their own history?

Some material conditions improved, yes. Overall, no. The mass movement against the Shah was successful but the working class failed to control power for various reasons, to put it succinctly.

Do you believe that the Capitalists, bourgeoisie, and fascists will just give you rights and an improved life out of the goodness of their heart? This has never happened. Working class power threatens the system, and if threatened, Capitalism will attempt to squash that working class power.

People think there’s some golden age of Capitalism which is progressive and bends to the will of the people. This is a fantasy, and has never existed ever in history.

I do believe things can change at the ballot box. Countries have come into existence through a vote, treaties have been made and broken there as well. Not saying violence hasn’t made a positive difference, but once you start using violence, you lose control of the process and the revolution you envisioned can be taken over

Sorry, I shouldn’t have led with such an open question. What i meant to say was what makes you think that it will be a workers revolution? Could the rich or the religous not hijack the revolution to further their own ends?

The rich already control the state, they don’t need a revolution to do so. More workers than ever support socialism in the US, and socialist organizing is rising.
