I see a lot of free games on here that are made with AI, and personally i’m not interested in AI generated content. If other people feel the same way, maybe we could start tagging posts accordingly?
Ok, thanks everyone for your input, here’s the new rule I’ve added to the sticky post:
If the game has an “AI Disclosure” then please include it in the post body too
Hopefully this allows interested readers to get the info without too much extra effort required by the posters, but don’t forget the golden rule: keep it civil and keep it chill!
As the person who posts the most here my main question is how? I don’t have any way to know what was used beyond what is posted on the game’s page. Some sites like Steam force disclosure, so anyone interested can just look there. Some like Itch don’t even enforce a description of the game so you’ve got no idea with them!
“AI” is a generic marketing term for a load of different things (for instance you might have different opinions on generating all your graphics compared to translating your game into another language compared to using a code assist compared to cloning an entire game), so a catch-all “uses AI” term isn’t necessarily relevant to everyone.
Ultimately if you’re posting you’ve always been free to put as much or as little info in the post description as you like, and to add extra info in the comments if you find something relevant about someone else’s post.
Some like Itch don’t even enforce a description of the game so you’ve got no idea with them!
Itch doesn’t force a description, but they do force a ‘do you use gen AI’ tag. You can even filter on use of gen AI now.
Ideal, thanks!
Thank you for dedicating your time to create these posts. :)
You’re welcome!
My suggestion would be that any ai disclosures the developers make (whether they say it contains AI or if they explicitly say it does not) should be included in the post body. Obviously sometimes people overlook things, but I think it would be a good norm for the community.
Obviously it’s your comm so do what you want with it :)
Seems fair, I usually copy the description anyway so if there’s some disclosure it’s not much extra effort to copy that too. Other posters don’t always add a post description though, so I’m not going to start deleting posts just because that info is missing!
Would you mind at least “recommending” it in the sidebar?
Sure, I’ll wait and see what other discussion comes out of this thread and then make some updates
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Don’t like it. It’s a dumb rule.
It’s to the point where everything that’s AI should have to be flagged with AI. That way we know it’s AI so we can avoid it.
I like the idea if it could be done automatically. I don’t think people who find a good deal should be required to investigate further to make a determination of if it’s AI. And like other commenters, I wouldn’t find a simple binary “does/doesn’t use AI” all that useful. It’s necessary to know how the AI was used.
How could something like this even be done automatically?
No. AI is too broad, it’s not catch all phrase.
of course not, it will be an added burden that posters can’t possibly satisfy.
this isn’t an investigative community.
Yes, but it should be limited to using ai for assets lit art, voice acting, models, etc.
I don’t think should be used to tag games that have used ai as part of their development. Like how are they able to determine how much ai is warranted at tag. Would one dev using ai search to look something up counts as ai use?
Yep, please at least copy any disclosure the devs have made!
Would also appreciate a “could not find disclosure” for everything else.
Mandatory and really easy to see with an icon. Full disclosure on text.
I mean, the least we can do in this community is to do a little research and post whether we’re unsure/definitely know if it has AI.
If I find any that I post here, going forward I’ll make sure to consciously put a note in the title concerning AI.
imo tagging is not enough, they should be shunned to their own sublemmy(?)
That seems overly harsh as not everyone minds it like I do. If you’d like to create your own no-AI-allowed free games comm, no one is stopping you!
hey, i was asked for my opinion and that’s what i provided. i think the way AI slop infects and corrodes communities and trust is underrated atm.
is a tag only to filter for something or can you set a tag to “ignore”?
Lemmy doesn’t even have the concept of tags
I think that varies from client to client
if you can’t ignore it it’s not going to be useful for people who don’t want to see it.
Well it keeps you from clicking on a game, reading the whole store page, and then finding a little disclosure tacked onto the end
Pretty sure they’re called communities.
thanks!
Yup agreed
100% for this. I don’t think people should get up in arms if the fact it used AI in development is not clearly available, but if its right there on the steam page it should be tagged.
100% without question I support that.
