NDP leader Avi Lewis has renewed his call for the federal government to nationalize Stelco in the face of the company laying off 500 unionized workers from its Hamilton plant.
I agree, but Lewis needs to understand that if the government intervenes on every potential deal that is bad for Canadian businesses (as they will become even more chronically undervalued)
That being said, I do agree in the case of the Nova Scotia sea drone company and Stelco, calling national security and overriding those sales is the right move.
This is kind of a bad faith comment though, isn’t it? Lewis didn’t propose intervening on “every potential deal”. He wants an intervention in this one.
Has he said anything implying he doesn’t understand this? He seems to be just be making a pretty good point specifically about allowing foreign companies to destroy Canada’s critical manufacturing capacity.
