Do y’all think we’ll be able to repeal the anti-trans laws that were passed the past few years?
It will be hard to override the gerrymandering even if a somewhat significant majority vote progressively. But it’s a step.

They’re making progress at least. They seem like the kind that need baby steps first for a lot of them. https://www.them.us/politics/allison-montgomery-alabama-2026-midterms
The legislature is still republican, but the Lt. Governor gets to decide what legislation comes up for a vote. Unlikely to undo anyrhing, but even worse anti-trans laws are unlikely to pass.
It’s looking like we might flip the state house actually.
quite possible, but not the state senate. have to get that one next time ('28).
No shit. This day just keeps getting better.
One wonders how many ex-Californians were the factor.
Not a factor at all. The people moving from California are not coming from Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Oakland/Berkeley, or San Jose - they are coming from Stockton, Fresno, the central valley, and the Inland Empire - these people are not liberals, they are textbook conservatives. They voted overwhelmingly red.
Not many would be my guess. The Californians that left are MAGA.
Native Texas vote more blue on average than transplants. Contrary to popular belief, most people moving here from blue states tend to be very politically conservative.
Keep going, never stop pushing them.
Talarico won without being horrible to trans people, I hope its the beginning of the end of politicized transphobia.
Ditto El Sayed.
Probably not if we didn’t get the state senate. We can stop any new ones, and the state Supreme Court might do something.
Congrats! It’s still a long climb but I believe in you all!
Honestly, I’m a bit touched too. I’m not trans or Texan, but my ex is and I know how insanely difficult it is. It put her in a really bad mental place, and that was 20 years ago!
We never would have imagined a blue Texas, but here we are. It really brings a tear to my eye, although I know it won’t fix everything overnight. I’ve lost contact with her, but I hope she’s celebrating as much as you all are, too!
Its a long climb and by the next election Republicans will take it back and knock the ladder right back down
Not necessarily. Republicans have been fucking Texas over for so long, that in some ways, it’s going to be significantly easier for Dems in Texas to make very obvious improvements to the lives of Texans comparative to what they’re used to.
I think it helps that people know it’s possible now. 20 years ago I knew people who stayed home because it never felt possible, why bother? Now… well, no more hiding.
I am very surprised to read this about Texas. But keep pushing.
I’m Happy for you and Wish you all the best from Europe!

Thank you for voting!
The legislature is still very red unfortunately so this will most likely mean no new bills for a while.
State house flipped I thought?
It sure did, I’ll edit my comment.
You may want to update your priors, the Texas state house and state senate actually are looking actually looking like they might flip
The shift towards Talarico was insane is moving things down ballot dramatically
update your priors
eye twitch
Eh, I’ve been watching the live results on the tribune and there are a lot of republican won races with 99% of the vote in that just haven’t been called yet. Maybe you’ll be right though, I hope so.
Sure, but many of those aren’t necessary to flip. For something more concrete Erin Reed’s has put Texas House District 14 as a potential tipping point. It was R+21 in the past, it’s currently sitting at D+0.5 with >99% of the vote in

Current result as of now. (I know, fuck WaPo but they had the most up-to-date reporting I saw.)
A shame for the Texas state senate, but state house still looks like it can still flip. In any case, all a significant shift even if neither flips considering the hope was to just narrow the margins a bit not to get close to a flip
Yeah, it’s really huge. There are now opportunities to expand the party reach in the next two years. We won’t go back to complete Republican dominance for at least the next decade, maybe more.

As of 3pm CST, the house flipped, the senate did not. Like I was expecting the state wide races to flip, but not in my wildest dreams did I expect the house to. My gasts are flabbered.
I can finally spend less time worrying about all the trans folks in Texas. I’m so happy for you!
My state went from purple to blue and I feel like I can breathe for the first time in my adult life.
