When its convenient, christians follow the new testament. When it’s convenient, they also follow the old testament. Christians quite often pick and choose based on what they currently want to believe.

There are PLENTY of Christian sects that still teach fire and brimstone old testament style.
Ah, but it depends on the context, because a lot of the more restrictive stuff that they want to force on people are sourced in the Old Testament.
