I wanna say it’s 5x7 before the decoratitions, I’ve got a ton of past experience using clipping glitches to kitbash pieces together so it’s all pretty distinct. Honestly it’s kind of cheating because they still handle like the little fighters. I really need to get my OS sorted so I can share lol

Honestly I’ve tried to do the little cuties but I just can’t make it work in a pretty way. I don’t know if it was intentional but I give them credit for managing to make a ship crafter that doesn’t invalidate the other two ship types.

I’m pretty sure you’re on to something. I doubt they wanted people to be able to build a tiny ‘fighter’ with the same advantages as a Corvette. I’m guessing it’ll always be very bulky compared to my tiny Rasa’s. Maybe I should just try to make one with the fewest modules possible and see how it handles. Since we can also use normal starship upgrades, it might not even be that bad?

The whole clipping thing, I did read about it online, but I’ve never tried it. Yours must look really sleek then. I’ve seen some awesome designs. My first and only Corvette was a HUGE cube, with all the reactors, thrusters, etc inside of it, where it was hollow. I have since scrapped it. Had to use a mod to get around the complexity issue. Haven’t tried it since.

Personally I find the standard ship mods to be equal if not better than the corvette part mods, plus the corvettes can have a huge mod space. Another fantastic usecase would be deployable planetary housing. You don’t get environmental effects inside the ship and you can even close the doors and hide from enemies. It’s pretty nice to just point at a spot and have your house show up with all your gear and materials.

Sleak isn’t quite the word, I like the salvaged and lived in look of Thunderbird kit so it has a good deal of that sharp lines and industrial angles look. Very fitting to its name, The Vagabond Star.

You’re right, the Corvette does have some obvious advantages and the fact that it acts like a building is a huge pro. I also liked how I could just hover in place, jump out to mine something, jump right in and continue. It feels so smooth!

I also prefer the Thunderbird. The Ambassador looks too clean? Not sure how else to say it. And the other one, forgot the name, has too much orange in the interior, bleh.

Have to admit though, that I would probably use the corvette more if there weren’t two obvious advantages of the freighter as a base (for me, anyway): the portal and the scanner room. I jump with the freighter, scan the entire system and continue jumping if it sucks. And I have a huge farm and stellar extractors and 14 refiners (all of which you don’t need to find power for on the freighter - or the corvette on a smaller scale, which is why I think both are better than a planet-side base!) and whenever needed I can easily portal to my settlements/mines without having to fly to the space station again. I’m just so used to it, I doubt that’ll ever change. I’ve had my freighter as a base since the first time I got one and never looked back.

The moment they put portals and scanners in the corvette, I’m sold though. :D

I always forget about the freighter base, I started working on mine after building the corvette and haven’t finished it yet, honestly I think it would probably replace my Vagabond as home just because of the options available.

Hovering is the other amazing thing! Ocean planets are so much easier when you can just hover on the surface and cannonball out the rear bay door.
