Dear 80’s kids who had the nerve to say our (2000’s) shows and cartoons were dumb: this one’s for you! Here’s a taste of your own medicine.

Here’s why I think He Man is a load of garbage:

I just watched the intro to The He Man Show’ (allegedly a popular cartoon in the 80’s) and I’m left wondering one thing…

What prick made this thing???

So there’s this ponce Prince with his pink shirt and awful hair, who just happens to know how to hold up what can at best be described as a giant metal dildo, say some words, and suddenly he gets his magic power of… being butt naked??? Bro, that’s not a power, that’s just stripping naked.

Beyond that, his main enemy is some sort of skeleton thing. Oooh, a skeleton for an enemy!!! How original — not.

I couldn’t even bring myself to even try a single episode, the intro was so shit. I’m sure I’m not having the full picture, but if going off the intro is anything, this Star Wars-wannabe-but-will-never-hold-a-candle-to-shite is undoubtedly the original brain rot.

Having said that, I admit that my point of view may be biased, so I vow to, at some point, watch at least 1 full episode of The He Man Show and revisit this post to consolidate my actual opinion.

    You never picked up the actual name of the show, even with a film release this years with the same name? That’s 100% a you problem.

    Also, 80s cartoons largely existed to sell toys. Like action figures. Everything else was just details, and some were fuzzy. My favourite was ThunderCats, which was way more incredulous.

        Didn’t say it should or you should. It’s just a fact about 80s cartoons.

        Masters of the Universe was a shaky concept about combining Conan the Barbarian with Star Wars. The toy line was originally like five or six characters. The cartoon by Filmation added more, and they made toys for every single one of them.

        ThunderCats had a lot more characters to start with, but each episode added more. Again, they made a toy for every one.

        Just how cartoons were then.

          Yeah I get your point bro, I wasn’t having a go lol. I do get that that’s pretty much how cartoons were then, but my other point is: when I was young in the 2000’s, loads of people who were 80’s kids said what we watched was a load of crap (e.g. fairly odd parents, power rangers, SpongeBob) but if you ask me, loads of these shows had character too. Yeah, they made toys sure, but that wasn’t the main purpose of what these guys making these shows was; they wanted to tell stories and actually entertain kids. And I look at the crap they made in the 80’s all for making toys and shit, and I think: you called out stuff crap when this is what you watched? Pfft. Bullshit.

          And I’m not saying every 80’s cartoon was like that (I’m sure there were 80’s cartoons that did try to be different). But it seems like all the popular/well known ones were primarily a money making scheme rather than a story telling event. Thats just my take, others may disagree and have perfectly legitimate reasons to.

            I get you. I can’t take you too seriously since you said you watched the opening and didn’t understand that the name of the show was He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, but I get you.

            I’ve also dumped on 2000s cartoons, not because they’re bad, but because I wasn’t a kid when they aired, so they never spoke to me. I also understand this, so I’m not going to make the argument, since I find it indefensible.

            Also, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was cool (I watched the first season, babysitting a girl who had a crush on one of them), but I liked it better when it was called Voltron and resented that the kids of the era didn’t realise it was a remake/tribute/whatever to the show from my childhood. So for me, it was basically live-action Voltron with a different name.

            Fairly Odd Parents is fine. I’ve seen episodes and I can’t find fault with it at all.

            I never liked SpongeBob SquarePants and that gets me weird looks from your generation. I don’t get the memes. I’ve seen a couple episodes. I think it’s dumb. I do not fault people for liking it, it’s just never appealed to me.

        You shouldn’t. It is pure nostalgia slop for the olds like me. The cartoons of the 80s were indeed all about selling toys. It was the only way the capitalists could justify paying a bunch of nerds to draw cartoons for kids. The 80s cartoons were hilariously bad explicitly for this reason. I mean, they even had the balls to kill off Optimus Prime in the original Transformers movie. They didn’t care. It sold toys.
