Or something that goes a bit deeper onto each instance and explains them better? I have a mutual on mastodon that I recommended Lemmy to, and tried to link join-lemmy.org/instances, but it doesn’t really do much to warn about hexbear/lemmygrad/.ml/etc. Those instances are defederated from a LOT of lemmy and i don’t want my moot to sign up there and not even know that they’re not really experiencing the Lemmy experience that I’m recommending.

I don’t wanna start a war in the comments about instance dramas, I just wanna find a better resource to recommend Lemmy as a ‘reddit alternative’ -w-

Free career training to help people improve their material conditions, the horror!

At least some of you have stopped perpetuating the “genocide” propaganda, so props for that.

We’re not going anywhere, but you can always go back to Reddit, which I left at the same time as you: the APIpocalypse.

Hexbear user since a couple days of their launch before federation was a thing. The instances you’re knocking are older than every other instance, and the defeds were typically preemptive to the point where people on other instances usually have no fucking clue what they’re talking about.

Always makes this stuff bewildering, but we’ll be here with you or not.

“I don’t want to start a comment war, I just want to spew anticommunism while receiving zero pushback” isn’t going to work on Lemmy. You can block the instances and comments and posters, but this entire thing is built by communists. You will never have a liberal paradise in these parts.

FYI .ml is federated with almost every single instance. You’re just making shit up to get mad about.

The truth is that .ml doesn’t screen for ideology past a basic formality. However, many .ml posters have indeed studied enough Marxist-Leninism to recognize that the word “authoritarian” was perverted by imperialists to mean “communist” and is more of an indication that someone using it is clueless than it is a useful adjective.

It’s implied by making the distinction in the first place.

Liberals in leftist spaces and nazis in liberal spaces act the same way. You think you can outsmart your own affectations by not ‘saying the thing’ explicitly.

People who love authoritarianism and intentionally skip over their atrocities, the term “tankie” refers to how the military (tanks) were used to crush the rebellions of many authoritarian regimes, notably, the Hungarian uprising in 1956 being crushed by the Warsaw Pact and the Tianamen square massacre in 1989 by the PRC.

It’s usually used to refer to supporters of the Soviet Union, Cuba, North Korea, etc. who deny all the bad, inhuman things about those states.

More people who kiss the toes of dictators. Those who ignore the atrocities of Stalin and similarly despicable figures, “tankie” as in the tanks used to silence civilian protests

Anarchists are far left, but they would be very insulted if you called them tankies (their whole thing is anti-authoritarianism!)

Did you know that the reason “tankies” created Lemmy in the first place was because Reddit kept banning anything left of neoliberalism? All corporate social media platforms suppress anti-capitalists, and they especially suppress Marxist-Leninists, because they represent the most serious threat to capitalism.

Edit to add: Also, lemmy.ml is one of the most federated instances.

So, this somehow gives the regime an apology to kill and starve their own people? Meanwhile some of the members of the party are living their proletariat lives on private islands. They are on their way to dismantle hierarchy for sure.

The DPRK doesn’t kill and starve their own people, this is a fantasy. They had a period of famine in the late 90s and 2000s that they have recovered from, largely caused by sanctions, mass flooding, and the loss of the USSR. The CIA would trade bags of rice for ox tails, which meant farmers in the DPRK got short term food in exchange for ruining future harvests. It was a tremendous and genocidal attack on the DPRK that they have since, again, recovered from and are booming presently thanks to arms sales.

So you ignored the execution part for what purpose? And also Cuba is island without any connections to the mainland. north korea can buy supplies. I agree that all countries need independent economy without sanctions, so the dictatorships could naturally disolve and establish a real dictatorship of the proletariat - democracy or preferably direct democracy. Why no one of you tankies mention a true socialist that was elected by people (not put on the throne by soviets, or like bolsheviks just opressing and ignoring alternative parties like social-revolutionaries, that got the majority in учередительное собрание) like Salvodor Allende , who was killed during CIA-assisted coup.

Hot take: tankies are the main reason why social-democratic consensus ended.

How many fucking times have we seen someone “executed” only to show up alive later? It’s tabloid shit.

That literally demonstrates why electing socialists doesn’t work! They’ll fucking kill you. Or they’ll send in a hit squad to kidnap you and hold you hostage like Maduro. The way to establish socialism is to seize power and then make sure the socialists can’t lose it ever again, not leave yourself vulnerable to US meddling.

First of all, you missed a nice opportunity to mention my weak points. Second, western media loves to satanize dprk, yet the gulags are not just yet another speculation from noname korean outlet that was reposted by the bigger western ones, it is a real violation of human rights as well as the executions of families being a thing. You can not call documented years of systematic public executions and gulags “tabloid shit”.

[ Also comparing Maduro, a dictator that rigged elections (thus being dictator , because people were against his regime) , to a real socialist like Allende, that came to power in a real competition, and had a real name, without having to establishing state oligarchy under red flag and calling it a socialism, is ironical at best. No one is sad because Maduro is captured, no one cares about him, many people celebrated even. When Allende was killed, even those frustrated by the chaos of 1970s , respected the fact that he was a legitimate leader, Allende died because he did not want to flee, and died with rifle in his hands. But I do understand it is some sort of analogy. ]

Your takeaway , that the only way to build a socialism is through “seizing power and never lose it” a.k.a turning from socialist system into yet another state oligarchy is also hilarious, because this is literally what the so called “social bloc” , the fact that soviet union and china was no different from corpocracy , where the main goal is oppress any independent worker unions, silence the people, and own as much as possible in the hands of the one guy. This system is unsustainable and leads to anything but socialism. Socialism without democracy is not socialism by the very fundamental idea of socialism, the society supposed to own the means of production, not the state oligarchs , that cannot be replaced by democratic voting. Instead you get corpocracy wanting to expand (definitely not imperialism, but a good will), crushing everything beneath them, putting oligarchs, censoring everything and locking down their people.

If you need an alternative to US imperialism and tankie dictatorship, how about getting rid of any hegemony, thus weakening the most dangerous actor (US) , and then do political activism all together , to return to the strong social-democratic baseline, and then, Meidner’s plan, independent workers unions, worker’s self-management and trying different approaches to moving from free market to market socialism or similar.

I don’t want to know your opinion if it is not about people ruling the state.

How about pointing them at Piefed instead?

You could point them to the instance chooser. It’s on every piefed instance but is decentralized so may be different on different instances, here’s piefed.social: https://piefed.social/auth/instance_chooser

Piefed has all the same content but a different feature set and worse app support, but app support is growing.
