While cloned fonts may not be illegal, it certainly wasn’t in the spirit of the campaign.

The music was definitely used illegally though.

I am going to download an entire car the moment it is technically possible and feasible to do so with a sufficiently large 3d printer. I don’t even care if cars are still a thing by that point, I will do so simply out of principle, to be able to say “Yes I absolutely would download a car, I just did!”

You could just download it, no need to actually print the thing for no reason

I would buy a larger drive to do that though, just to say I did

I mean the original anti-piracy ad said you wouldn’t steal a car, because they were trying to equate digital piracy with physical theft, it’s the meme edits that say you wouldn’t download a car

I will copyright some schematics so everyone can enjoy the thrill of piracy to really drive the point home.

Yes I absolutely would download a car

This campaign joins D.A.R.E. as one of the most ironically unsuccessful campaigns of all time.

If your car can’t run without its firmware, and you download a new version of it… Etc.

Anyway, I’ve heard that this ad possibly resulted in more piracy as people became aware that it was even possible to save money by downloading movies and music. Hard to measure though.

If I could download a car and use it in real life, I certainly would.

      looks up Graham Lineham

If ever there was a case for separating the art from the artist (while still being careful not to support him monetarily or otherwise)…

After an episode of The IT Crowd was criticised as transphobic, Linehan became involved in anti-transgender activism. He argues that transgender activism endangers women, and has likened the use of puberty blockers to Nazi eugenics. Linehan says his views have lost him work and ended his marriage

Sadly not, most mentally ill people aren’t like him, and also it is obvious he is in a cult as this is exactly what cults do to people.

Basically draw every character individually as a vector graphic and put them all together into a font file with something like FontForge.

It’s not that hard, technically speaking, though of course it takes skill to come up with a set of glyphs that work well together and such.

Also, there are websites that can scan your handwriting and turn it into a font file, which is pretty cool. I have a font I created of my wife’s handwriting.

Yeah my understanding is the musician licensed the music only to be shown at a few live events, like film festivals, but that PSA was on an entire era of DVDs.
