The Israeli government is moving to extend the nationwide “special situation on the home front” until 6 October, citing security assessments that there remains a “high probability” of attacks on civilians amid continued uncertainty surrounding Iran and Lebanon, Maariv reported.

Although no Home Front Command restrictions are currently in force, the emergency declaration preserves broad powers to impose shelter orders, restrict schools, and introduce other civil defense measures at short notice if the security situation deteriorates.

The emergency status has been in effect since 28 February, when Israel launched its unprovoked war against Iran, and would remain active for more than seven consecutive months if approved. Government legal advisers acknowledged that such a prolonged emergency raises legal concerns but concluded it remains justified based on current “security assessments.”

The extension still requires approval from the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, while officials say the declaration could be lifted or scaled back should conditions significantly improve, according to Maariv.
