Hundreds of people took to the streets of Morelia, the capital of the western state of Michoacán, to condemn the murder of Carlos Manzo, the mayor of Uruapan, on November 1st.
According to local media, the protesters, dressed in black and white, demanded not only justice but also an end to the violence in the state. Some carried signs calling for the resolution of Manzo’s murder, who was shot to death during a Day of the Dead commemoration.
Following the peaceful protest, an unidentified group entered the Michoacán State Government Palace, leaving its main door partially damaged.

What are your thoughts? I had no clue who that guy was tbh, seems like another “El Bronco” type of politician. One thing for sure is that MORENA has been utterly incapable of handling the insecurity in the periphery of the capital and will likely be the reason they lose support across the country. The countryside is basically a battle-royale due to the absurd amount of rural settlements (Ejidos) which serve as recruiting pools for cartels, in my region there is 1(!) police patrol for dozens of these settlements ranging from 100 population to 5000 population and each settlement is several kilometers away from each other, robberies in farmers warehouses are as common as mosquitoes these days, myself being a victim already for > 10kUSD in damages + loss of productivity due to lack of tools.
Not to mention that our local politicians, from any party really, are just a bunch of opportunist suck-ups with no real political education nor basic education.

I agree with you here. Also, I will add that they are losing support in the cities too due to gentrification and the declining conditions. Lots of people are losing their home to the “Real Estate” cartel and this group only gained more support now that the World cup is closing by. At the end of the day, the ruling party is also losing economically by allowing more and more concessions with the US(like joining the failed strategy of the tariff wars with China) and by not doing enough to diversify from the US. This guy from Telegram summarized my thoughts:

While agreeing with that comment, we are actively seeing the limits of social democracy and that should be used by organization to push people into socialism. We are in dire need for agitation and organization in Mexico.
As for me, I also live in a rural area and most of my family members have been urging us to be armed. There have been protests regarding the “precios de garantia” of corn and I have been agitating from that side.
Glad to see someone sharing my thoughts, i am extremely disappointed by their china policies too.
In regards to the corn protests, as someone who works in the industry, i wish there was more finger pointing towards los coyotes, the businesses, individuals that buy and sell grain, they are the worst scum there is and i’ve straight up been robbed by them several times and there is no way to legally attack them either… I am not so sure about the strategy of protesting against the goverment when the coyotes are the closer burglars.
Oh yeah, you are right about the coyotes. If I could summarize the talking points from the protest that I had closeby, it will be like this:
- Don Miguel explained this here(he touches superficially the topic of importers and big agro businesses) -> https://www.instagram.com/reels/DQVFjofEdLe/
The main demand is to push for $7,200 per ton of corn. There could be better strategies out there to rally the people but so far this one has brought plenty of people to form a mass movement. But yeah… We are in dire need for organizations and the correct agitation.
They are chanting “Out with MORENA”, the ruling (and extremely popular) party of Sheinbaum and AMLO. Maybe they are accusing it of being in collusion with the cartels?
Also, on a separate note, is using xcancel like using invidious but for x?
Not sure if it is open source but Xcancel helps to provide a way to view X content without needing an account.
Yeah basically
What happened??

Haha, well yeah, but I was asking more about the relevance of the murder or the context of it. I know Morelia and Guerrero are not the best palces to be in right now, but I don’t know who Carlos Manzo was, or what party he was affiliated with.
I’m guessing not MORENA
Carlos Manzo was not affiliated to any party and he was rallying people against the violence perpetrated by the Drug cartels(there are 5 in the zone: CJNG, Los caballeros templarios, Los viagras, Pueblos Unidos y Los blancos de Troya).
Also, Uruapan is the capital of one of the biggest agro business which is the Avocado. People are genuinely mad about this.
Ooooooooh, I see. And I’m assuming that the rallying up of the people was…encouraging them to fight back? I’m honestly a bit
starved
(I currently only watch Diego Ruzzarin and listen to Soberanía)
for domestic news regarding violence, so I really don’t know that much about it.
I haven’t read about the exact actions or policy that they were rallying for.
Their core message was that they were rallying for a stronger fight against the drug cartels. That’s all I know for now.
