I feel like they copied the vibes from that place for the main characters store/home in the movie Elemental.

Saigon (and Vietnam in general) has so many cool spots. It’s like America isn’t even trying to be creative or awesome.

I’ve kinda-sorta wanted to travel there ever since I first saw the Top Gear Vietnam special. Now that was some 20 years ago and Vietnam obviously has developed a lot since then, but already back then it looked like such a great place.

Specifically I want to do the same road trip they did, see all the places on the way, etc. But lately time and money are not things I have an abundance of, so maybe in another decade :/

It’s because everything has to be easily sellable to real estate investors now. It wasn’t always this way, but everything in America is now hyperoptimized.

Zoomers notice this a lot. I hope that’ll push it back the other way, but I’m not optimistic.

America has disdain for tomorrows and yesterdays. We are a country of today only. Our past is embarrassing, our future has been sold to billionaires. Art, community, public service, education, quality of life, it’s all “woke”, and therefore “political”. The conservatives hate progress, and the “liberals” are chronically passive. We can’t even have mass transit let alone beauty for the sake of beauty. Our buildings reflect our people: bland.
