Muslimgauze - a white British dude who was not Muslim but had a fascination with the Muslim world and palestine in particular. He made music that was a mix of IDM and arabic/Muslim influenced sounds and used provocative song and album titles.
He was active in the 80s and 90s before he died and recorded so much stuff that dozens of releases seem to have come out since he died.
One of the posthumous albums I’ve been listening to is called “no human rights for arabs in israel” and other album covers feature veiled women with guns and other images that might get you on a watch list, highly reccomended if you want to listen to a guy who seemed like he was autistic and obsessed with anti imperialism specifically Palestine.
Predates a lot of current bands doing pro palestine stuff by decades.
Reminds of modest by default, an Argentinian artist remixing chill-out/downtempo songs featuring very clearly anti-imperialist covers and titles (sometimes). Some of the covers are seriously go so hard it’s incredible (the music is hit or miss and kinda meant to be incidental). Everything’s on bandcamp for free too
Recently, I’ve been listening two things mostly:
Tim Maia, a Brazilian musician that I love.
Anime Titties, a indie rock band. I liked their sound, and I won’t lie that the name made me do a double take, hahaha. was the reason I gave it an initial listen.
That is a band name alright.
I had been hearing about a hand called “chat pile” for a while and didnt look into them cause I thought the name was silly. Turns out it’s a reference to piles of crap left over from mining that is so pollutant heavy its caused entire towns to be abandoned.
Turns out even if you think a band name is silly it may still be worth looking into.
That said Anime Titties I’m sure doesnt have much of a deeper meaning I mean how could it?
