Realistically, at old age, your mental state is often tied to physical state. Politicians aren’t really the types that go to gym. Well, there’s that Schwarzenegger guy
Why would mods remove opinions? I’m allowed to say kids are stupid just as much as elderly are stupid, and humans are stupid. I can’t however say that you are stupid as that would suddenly be a direct insult, not an opinion about age group.
There has been a off-handed remark I heard on The Delta Flyers that Colm must have had so much time off to film other things in his contract and Terry saying that is why they never got to do anything.
EDIT: Basically any time Colm isn’t in an episode of DS9, he was off filming other things.
I remember seeing an interview where she quit because of the grueling schedule where she had to be on set at like 4-5am but had to wait for her scene to be ready. Almost right after the word came out she was regretting her decision.
Now I think Rick might have heard of her complaining and “helped her out”
Don’t know about Berman’s mental state, but I know of plenty of old people who didn’t lose their marbles. My granny for one remembers anything since the dawn of time or at least from her 95 years of living.
What you actually do in retirement matters a lot too. I noticed a huge difference between one who challenged herself mentally and one who watched TV while drinking beer all day.
Not entirely. I remember there was a neurological study of nuns. The oldest ones were riddled with Alzheimer’s, but they had a rich social life. Despite the diagnosis, they were still plenty sharp.
The way Denise (who knows him better than we do) reacted imo suggests she too thinks he’s making shit up (again). But sure, he’d just have to say “sorry, I seem to have misremembered this. In the future, I will try to check with others before I publicly post about distant memories.”
because it sounds like “he forced her out somehow and then he was an asshole to her”, sort of what happened with farell, but it is a different situation.
Both things can be correct. She felt her like her character wasn’t going to go anywhere and was just becoming the “hot blonde” character which she understandably didn’t want. That was the show-runners treating her like shit, and her feeling like she wasn’t going to become a star there.
Given how Trek has treated women characters up to the current day, I’m not sure she was wrong.
we have jenna mitchell in the cast of strange new worlds today and it is wonder we even know her name. is she also treated like shit by some bully? compared to that, corby got one episode centered all around her and quite an amount of screen time in the other episodes. not everything is ensamble cast, sometimes you have support characters, sometimes it takes time to develop some characters.
she also returned when she found out grass is not greener on the other side, so i think your theory has some holes in it.
If you’re posting about the actions of someone else, and if you’re presenting it as fact, then yes.
His memories of an interaction with Crosby do not belong only to him. And she has the right to correct him - especially since the truth makes him out to be far less than he’s presenting himself as.
He’s still attached to the Trek franchise and benefits if in the public’s perception his relationship with cast and crew is seen as friendly. He told this story to shape that perception, to make people say, “aw, cute, she wanted him to have her badge, they must be good friends.”
Sometimes people tell themselves a lie so much they actually believe them. Not saying that makes it okay and that he’s not an asshole, but he may genuinely believe this.
He probably doesn’t remember. Dude’s 80 years old. I’ve never met anyone over the age of 70 who wasn’t effectively mentally disabled.
i mean i’ve met quite a few people in their 80s who aren’t. no need for that shit here
Checks the age of the last 2 POTUS’s and half of congress…
hmmm

disliking their politics doesn’t excuse ageism nor ableism. the fact that y’all jump there so readily and none of the mods do anything is telling.

Sure but Rick is very well known for how he interacted and treated female cast. Famously most will know of Farrell being fired from DS9.
Is that why she left DS9? I never new, I thought she quit to do another TV or movie or something.
I don’t follow the behind the scenes stuff on trek very closely… anyone wanna give me a link or a quick summery on Berman’s Bullshit?
iirc it’s a bit between, she wanted some flexibility in her schedule to pursue other projects while staying on DS9, Berman said “lolno get fucked”

She wanted less time on the series to do other things but Berman did allow it. So she was fired instead.

If I remember correctly she wanted a reduced schedule, to be a recurring character, but they (Rick?) said no.

Aging really is a game of swings and roundabouts
Better.

Maybe he shouldn’t be making up shit then.
They’re saying this Rick person probably thinks this is what happened

not to defend berman, but:
Why does her leaving voluntarily change things? People who quit a job still deserve respect.
Regardless, I’m more concerned about the original behaviour than whether he remembered it or not. A forgetful asshole is still an asshole.
because it sounds like “he forced her out somehow and then he was an asshole to her”, sort of what happened with farell, but it is a different situation.
I’d leave voluntarily if I was being treated like shit, too.
except that is not what happened. she left because she felt she is not going to become a star there and she will have bigger chance elsewhere.

that is not what i said though, is it?
If they have a history of misremembering and have been called out before, yes. Especially if they’re essentially doing PR, like he is doing here.
what is he doing PR to? his desk, or that badge?
He’s still attached to the Trek franchise and benefits if in the public’s perception his relationship with cast and crew is seen as friendly. He told this story to shape that perception, to make people say, “aw, cute, she wanted him to have her badge, they must be good friends.”
does he? he is 80, he is not coming back…
No, this is a pretty tame level of lying for Rick Berman.
Sometimes people tell themselves a lie so much they actually believe them. Not saying that makes it okay and that he’s not an asshole, but he may genuinely believe this.
Who gives a fuck.
…ok.
You might’ve not intended to lowkey apologize for his fucknut antics, but the effect persists despite your aim, fellow human. 🫡😅
I literally added a caveat saying otherwise. You cannot assume what you do not know, like the person I was responding to.
