The red one goes a little faster, but they’re both on the same track.
The illusion of the two party system isn’t that there are only two choices, it’s that it makes people think there’s only two choices. Primaries exist, as do state and local races where party often has less of an impact than federal elections… and more often than not translate upwards to make bigger changes.
But of course those are slow changes, changes that take time and concerted effort over a long time. And an individuals efforts can feel lost because they don’t come with that immediate bump of dopamine that quick action and answer give.
So we look and we wait for that quick fix. That easy answer that can just fix everything. And we keep waiting. Because it’s an illusion dreamt up by people too fatigued and demoralized to go on hoping for real change that they take any fleeting hope they can.
Oh well! At least we have memes! Blessed memes! They don’t fix anything, but at least we can use them to point at every problem we have, even if we never think of meaningful fixes.
The real illusion is the idea that electoralism can dismantle a system from within that system.
They’ll scream, “One side literally has nazis!”, as if slightly better than nazis is the best we can hope for.
Because First Past The Post mathematically always leads to two party system, we have one party made of Nazis and another made of everyone else.
The other party is only slightly better than the Nazis and we only vote for them because they’re slightly left of Nazis, and we have no other choice.
something something vote blue MAGA no matter who
it’s almost like you wouldn’t prefer a lesser evil!
In this thread: an idiot.
you mean in this post? because until I commented, you were the only person in this thread.
maybe they’re just self-identifying?
A pedantic idiot even!
the sidebar says if you post angry comments you’ll get made fun of. don’t whine at me just because you can’t read.
I’m not angry, this is just dry factual stuff. You’re the one in a rush to fully rip the door off the leopard cage.
you’re complaining about leopards when you want to toss everyone into the cage with the venomous snakes. I always knew intellectualism wasn’t an american strongpoint, but it never ceases to amaze me the lengths people will go to defend their enslavement.
Thanks for sharing this, I cross-posted it to lemmy.world and I’ve been very successfully curating a blocklist of blue MAGA pro-genocidal freaks.
