as a young man I would see people order mild chicken and popeyes and think. whats the point of going to popeyes to order mild. now as an old man who can’t handle spicey food I realize popeyes mild is still a bit spicey and better than most other places bland chicken and that aging sux.

Most of the time I have to ask them to actually make it spicy since most places barely wave the hot sauce over the food. It’s not like I have a huge tolerance for spice, but when I ask for hot I’d like to actually get it.

I have this problem with Thai places on occasion. A lot of them do a 1-5 scale where 5 is like true spicy from a traditional Thai cuisine perspective, 3 is like spicy from a western cuisine perspective, and 1 is like barely spicy.

The ones that dont do this scale its really annoying to say please make it spicy, like no actually spicy spicy. And then you get it and its like a 2/5. One place I ordered it spicy spicy, not whatever the standard spicy is, and the chef actually came out after serving it. I loved it but I think he was attempting to make it punishingly spicy, but he was nowhere near that level for me.

If I ask for spicy I want it to make me sweat but I also still want to taste the food. That is a truly perfect level of spicy

im guessing you might be white. I found ethnic places will give me not very spicy if I ask for spicy but if Im with a friend of that ethnicity you get the real stuff.

Yeah but that is the beauty of the Thai 5-point scale. 1 is like whatever the spiciest thing you can get at a Taco Bell is. 5 is like “Grandma is cooking and she might just fuck around and put you in the hospital”

It contains multitudes and has no ambiguity

I have a buddy that has a very rare neurological condition where he can’t taste hot food.

He has every “prize” you win for eating the Ultra mega deth sauces from every wing place in the state. I mean some of these wings come out and its like you got pepper sprayed being near them. Its a sight to behold.

Also it affects his ability to regulate his body temp, does not sweat, and physical pain is very dull to his senses. So we have to watch him like a hawk in the summer because he goes into heat stroke way to easy.

lol. I remember once I bought beef jerky and the flavor name was called death by jerky. I ate the whole bag, I was wow this is good and it wasn’t as spicy as I thought it would be. Well at 2am I wake up with gut pain and then I spent an hour on the pot sweating bullets thinking I might actually die. I walked a bit funny the next morning.

Never mentioned it, but its got to kinda suck as he can only taste (as best as he can describe) certain foods.

We are in the south so its stressful, also he love music festivals and who are we to say “no”. So we have to pack out ice, plenty of water, tried to get him to wear one of those cold vest (absolutely won’t). Since he won’t wear it I started to and they are awesome! Find shady area’s which so is everyone else…

But he’s a bro, that so what you do.

Genuinely probably easier to manage when its just always one temp extreme versus having to keep track of major weather changes and how that plus activity impacts and all.

At least with warm you can just assume its too hot. And probably be right.

I mean, in winter, overheating is easy if you don’t plan in layers and take them off according to the outside temp and how it makes you personally feel. And if you live in a place with winter you have to keep track of so many temps through the year and whether or not a body can manage them… more temperate means less caution for extremes.

I wear shorts when its above 40, as long as that happens between December and July. When it happens in August to December, its so cold because my blood hasn’t thickened, so i don’t.

Got your msg, going to watch it asap. I’ll hit you back in DMs. Thank you for taking the time to post this, the little I have watched so far is that this is a game changer to the traditional cold vests. Definitely something I want to play around with as I think I have another off label use for this material. I’ll get me detailed after watching the video and doing some research.
