Elon Musk ordered the slowdown of a military-grade version of SpaceX’s Starlink satellite service that Ukraine relies on

HOW? StarSHIELD is a separate satellite network under US military control and with additional capabilities. Musk can’t order the US military around. That’s a ridiculous claim without explaining how he would do this, and without addressing the sheer madness of how this would be allowed.

The whole reporting around this relies on confusing and conflating Starlink with Starshield. This is honestly disinformation because it leaves readers more disinformed about how starlink / starshield is used. Which allows the preposterous claim to go unchallenged and people eating it up.

Also, no globally operating civilian satellite network should ever be used for war.

When the world richest man can order a country to be fucked over and people to die, you’d think we’d get rid of that man, but here we are.

No single person should be able to wield such power

      SpaceX should be nationalized.

Except then it would belong to the US so it just changes the man in charge of things and not for any better or worse really.

Perhaps such a satellite network should simply not be allowed to exist in the first place. Then there’s no politics involved.

No, but the socialist and communist were instrumental for ending the first world war and getting rid of the Kaiser. While they led the country Germany experienced a economic and cultural boom in the twenties (aka the roaring twenties)

In the early thirties the SPD and the communist had started a fight among themselves which was fueled by the large industrialists that didn’t agree with the peace terms ( the steel and weapons industry was largely abolished ) The resulting power vacuum was then filled in by the Nazis while being cheered on by the big manufacturing powers of the time.

So to answer your question, no Germany had no big left leaning ‘hegamony’ in 30s they had it right after WW1 and in the early 20s

Yes, although in this day and age I would rather use the word progressive. ‘the left’ is both an economic stance and a cultural stance. Usually it includes an economic model where the rich pay their fair share and the poor or incapable are taken care of ( economic left). Cultural left also includes stuff like equal rights, caring for refugees, opposing benefits for religious groups, allowing woman abortion etc. I usually refer to economic left politics as ‘progressive’. Cultural and economic left are not always and everywhere a package. In Denmark the ruling party is economic left, but cultural right. In Holland the ruling party is economic right wing but cultural left. A progressive right wing party ( it’s not pretty ) Economic left leaning policies are bad for big capital. (Higher taxes) And cultural left is bad for business because it usually leads to more oversight, unionizing etc.

When a populace is adequately educated and has adequate means (housing, food etc) and have a fair and balanced media landscape, they almost automatically lean to progressive politics. Because, although a lot of people want you to think otherwise, humans are actually altruistic by nature. This is what happened in the nineties in Europe, and to a leaser extend in USA.

However they do not also lean to economic left politics, because people still vote with their wallet. Money and wealth have a sickening way of making people greedy up to a point where they start to act and vote against their self interest, regardless of political color. This is exploited by the ruling class to scare people. ( “If you vote for that socialist he will take all YOUR money!”, etc)

You understand that the call for higher taxes and policies to fix the climate, which really got going in the nineties were very bad for business, so the capital class started to shovel money into a truly tremendous political marketing campaign and propaganda machine that – through a staggering amount of inane bullshit messaging --somehow got the electorate believing that the world was on the verge of collapsing and scared the people shitless by telling them they would loose all their money ( and proving the point somewhat by ushering in a completely unnecessary and preventable financial crisis in 2008). Leading to fear and irrational voting ( people clearly and overwhelmingly voting against their own interest ) which lead to their lives getting worse. Rinse. Repeat. And that is how you end up with Fascism, which is actually very good for the oligarchs because it basically strips all rules and oversight.

Don’t let yourself be fooled into thinking that anything we see today was inevitable. It was carefully planned and payed for.

I also read somewhere Else a long time ago that Buddhism was invented to counteract the forces of materialism. if musk is proven to turn off the service at strategic points he could be asserted as enemy/foreign agent. Mind you the service is paid for. Foreign agents not adhering to the rules of war (declaration, wearing uniform) are not subject to geneva conventions and basically “free game” indeed. I dont think he knows what hes getting himself into.

This is an interesting philosophical question, honestly. My own current opinion includes [email protected] though, so it doesn’t matter too much.

According to RationalWiki, Musk “went crazy” ~2018 and <18% of 2025 purchases were <= that year.

Should someone with a, for example, 2015 model be given the benefit of the doubt? Does it change if it was purchased well after the fact but restored from a wreck by a third party or something, or if it was bought from someone avoiding the reputation?

Elon Musk backstabbed tesla owners when he bought twitter and started supporting trump instead of being politically neutral as before. It was a very bad idea for Biden to credit GM for EVs and not include Musk in automaker meetings.

Agree on the Biden bit. But think there’s more to it. Saw a new documentary about Elon Musk and the lawsuits against Tesla concerning the failed autopilot, which have killed and injured several people. One of the main points in the movie was that Elon Musk started supporting Trump to put an end to the 3-4 lawsuits, which would have big consequences for Tesla and Musk, which it indeed did when Trump won. To me it sounds like that would also be a pretty big motivation for supporting Trump.

As pathetic as it sounds, yes. There was an abrupt change in Muskrat’s behaviour after that snub. He swung hard towards Republicans immediately after it, and was very very loudly butthurt about it all over social media.

Should a grown man be that fragile, no.

But all evidence suggested he indeed was, and part of this hellscape we are in is because Dems shunned Tesla & Musk in a public way and damaged his apparently fragile ego.

Most shareholders don’t have a choice. Pension funds and 401k’s are legally required to own a pool of all stocks which forces them to buy Tesla.

It’s how Musk got to offload his overpriced SpaceX stock onto the public.

That’s why the normal 3 month delay for getting listed as a fortune100 being reduced to 15 days in the case of SpaceX was a bit of a brouhaha.
