I dont know how I feel about my face/hair. I often hate it and I am disgusted by it. Also I look hella awkard lol. But either way, here I am!

At some point I will post some photos of me attempting to do makeup, once I get the confidence lol.

You look cute! Don’t worry about it.

I hope the makeup goes well, I’m still figuring that out too.

You mentioned makeup, here comes an infodump:

A simple tip about makeup: just start with foundation and nothing else. It’s super duper easy and makes an immense difference!

Now, what is foundation? Here goes:

It comes in a tube and it is the same colour as your own skin. The natural skin has a lot of colour variation all across it, and when you colour everything with one colour, it makes your skin look incredibly much better! Smoother.

My foundation is a matte because I don’t want it to be immediately noticeable that I have makeup on. I prefer what is called a “no-makeup makeup”, although I’ve recently started diverting from that by using eyeliner.

The only difficult thing about the foundation is initially obtaining it. It has to be of the precisely correct colour of your own skin. You get that by going to a makeup shop (any shopping centre has one or two of them) and simply asking the staff “Hi, I’d need a foundation matching my skin colour.” She will then put some foundations with different tones on your wrists to compare and will finally give you one tube in your hand to go pay at the counter.

The scary thing is of course having to go to a make-up shop when you still feel you look too male. At least that was my feeling. What I want to say about this is that cis women are practically always our strong allies. I mean, Joanne Rowling does of course exist, but in the months since mid June that I have had a clearly feminine gender expression all the time, I still have never had anything else than support from any adult woman! I have heard some annoying words from men and some laughing from teenagers, even female ones, but the moment I started dabbling with being transfeminine, I was immediately seen as part of team woman by adult cis women. It is incredible. So: no, the worker at the makeup shop will be absolutely oblivious to you feeling insecure about going there. She doesn’t even come to think there’s anything unusual about your presence at the shop. I still cannot fathom how they are so completely normal about the trans baby that is me. It really comes from their inside – it is not just a facade they are keeping. You go to a makeup store and talk with the staff and I guarantee they will behave with you just like they would with any other woman.

Here’s the tutorial I used for learning how to apply foundation. The other parts can be ignored for now. The part where she puts the foundation on begins at the 5 min 12 sec mark, skip to that spot in the video. (I use no concealer or anything. Just the cheapest moisturiser right after shaving, then 10 minutes of time for the moisturiser to set, and then foundation atop that. Works!)

So, get a foundation and enjoy the incredible effect it has on how a human face looks!

Then, you can start learning the rest. For about a month I was using foundation only. Then I got some good tips about how to apply mascara without my eye blinking, and had foundation+mascara from that point on. And then I’ve added new things one by one. Now I’m at foundation+mascara+blush+lipstick+eyeliner+settingspray. And sometimes when I’ve got time available, I learn something new again. And then wash it away because training takes repetition.

You got a face! And it’s attached to your head! And over time, you’ll connect with it more as it changes!
