I never mentioned genetics, strange that you would bring it up. Sex isn’t even fully determined by genetics, something as complex and fragile as your personal values certainly can never be reduced to genetics.
Humans brains are stochastic and the values we eventually settle on depend both on our environment and on somewhat random walks through possible values. Some people will land on violent domination as a social strategy just through randomness. I believe an environment where everyone is cared for and has the ability to flourish will minimize the people who randomly end up on violent domination, but it is not possible through environmental changes to completely prevent this. Thus we cannot allow any positions of power, since those will attract and eventually be captured by people who have chosen domination as their preferred strategy.
The desire to dominate and the willingness to act on it has existed in a fraction of the population since before humans were human. This is the root of all evil, capitalism is a specific manifestation of this impulse that has only existed for some 400 years. If your analysis starts and ends at “capitalism bad” you miss the vast majority of oppression that has existed or will exist.
Really hate the milktoast way these articles are written. “critics warning” “ignited alarm online” “backlash has ignited debate” ffs just say the Trump admin announced the end of free speech. That is literally what happened.
Some worried the administration was veering into authoritarian territory.
FFS WE’VE BEEN THERE THIS ISN’T VEERING THIS IS FOLLOWING A STRAIGHT LINE ALONG THE PATH WE’VE ALREADY BEEN ON FUCK
The reason Musk wants this might be greed, but it’s very stupid if that’s his reason. A huge amount of the US’s global economic power comes from strong-arming the rest of the world to enforce US patents and copyright, thus funneling trillions of dollars from the rest of the world to the US. Without any patents or copyright there would be improved Chinese Tesla copies on the market within a year.
The only sensible thing either of these two have ever said. All knowledge belongs to all humankind.
The ruling is also meaningless. They ruled the US has to “facilitate” his return, but does not have to “effectuate” his return. The admin will interpret this to mean that as long as El Salvador doesn’t take active steps to send him back, the US doesn’t have to do anything to try to make them.
Sure, lab safety goggles will protect you from pepper spray in most instances. But what eye protection you’re wearing won’t matter. You’re chained to a tree. The cops can do literally anything they want to you, including ripping your safety glasses off and emptying a can of pepper spray directly in your eyes. See: the infamous case of the Pepper Spray 8
Deputies pepper sprayed Mike McCurdy (above) and Noel Tendick directly in the eyes at close range while they were locked together through the tracks of a Pacific Lumber bulldozer on an old-growth redwood logging site. The activists endured the torture and did not unlock. Deputies then safely cut them loose with a portable grinder, as they could have done without using pepper spray, and as they had done hundreds of times in previous years.
Treesitters have been killed by loggers before and didn’t face murder charges iirc. They are probably more worried about wrongful death suits.
Depends on what you mean by “effective.” It might delay them for a few hours or a day. There’s a long history of this kind of thing, although it’s usually more effective to do a treesit rather than a lockdown for trees. You could do a lockdown on equipment like bulldozers/feller bunchers though. The Earth First! Direct Action Manual has a lot of info.
Be prepared to be literally tortured in various ways, including pepperspray placed directly in your eyes, pain compliance holds, or they just cut the chains/lockbox you’re in and if you get cut with it too bad.
Personally I’m not a big fan of get-arrested-on-purpose types of direct action, but it has its uses. I strongly recommend that if you’re going to do something like this you connect with a group that knows how to do it and you have a support crew, including jail/legal support.
Nah the first half of the 21st century is very rough in the Star Trek universe. We’re right on track (not really, I think we’re fucked long term) but it sucks to be the ones to live through it.
The cops were only there because she sent the letter telling them when and where she would be doing this. Also a 60 day sentence would not be served in prison, but the county jail (they are different).
Stop trying to make me like these assholes
The CEO of Volkswagon isn’t currently doing a fascist coup you fucking moron
If the main character isn’t the character I’m rooting for, then that doesn’t sound like an enjoyable movie.
Main character as the bad guy is very common and many great stories are told this way. If you can’t find a way to enjoy any of them then idk what to tell you, restrict your viewing habits to marvel movies I guess
yew got a lie-sense for that boner?
I believe the theory is that Roosevelt sat down with the Business Plot crew in secret and gave them the option of a) they convince their business pals not to oppose the New Deal too much or b) they hang. Obviously they picked option a.
What a hilariously absurd interpretation of what I said. Total failure of reading comprehension. Or just a bad faith dipshit.
