[2026-06-11] The Economist – Donald Trump’s least bad option in Iran
Expand article

Once again, Iran has been “completely defeated”, said Donald Trump on June 10th. Confusingly, the “Bully of the Middle East”, despite being “DEAD!!!”, will have to “pay the price!!!” of not agreeing to Mr Trump’s peace terms. In reality, despite more than 100 days of being bombed and blockaded by the world’s top military superpower and its Israeli ally, the Iranian regime is emboldened. This week it downed an American helicopter and fired missiles at its Gulf neighbours and Israel. It is almost as if Iran is daring Mr Trump to scrap the shaky ceasefire and restart a hot war.

Expand article
Tehran, IRNA – The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters has announced in a statement that the Armed Forces’ response to US aggression and mischief will continue.
The statement, released on Thursday, comes following recent American military actions against locations in southern Iran.
The US decision to halt attacks on southern Iran, as announced by the American president, is a direct result of the powerful and crushing response by the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Armed Forces.
Another defeat has thus been inflicted upon the US military in this regard.
The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters emphasized that the Armed Forces will persist in their response to US aggression.

The document stressed that the security of GCC member states is indivisible and that an attack on one of them would be regarded as an assult on the bloc as a whole
DOHA, June 10. /TASS/. Members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) reserve the right to collective self-defense and to respond by all lawful means in the face of attacks by Iran, according to a statement issued after a meeting of the bloc’s Ministerial Council in Manama.
“The Council affirms the established and legitimate right of its states to defend themselves, individually and collectively, and to respond to this aggression by all legitimate means, in accordance with Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations,” the statement said.
The document stressed that the security of GCC member states is indivisible and that an attack on one of them would be regarded as an assult on the bloc as a whole. The ministers also said that air defense systems had successfully intercepted Iranian missiles and drones launched toward Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.
Overnight into Wednesday, US armed forces carried out strikes on Iranian territory in response to the destruction of a US military helicopter. Iran subsequently targeted US military bases in Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait. Later, US President Donald Trump threatened to order new strikes on Iranian infrastructure, including bridges and power plants.

2·1 day agoWell $2 laser pen so I really have no idea how strong the UV is based on the store page, but it did seem flashlight-like.
They can actually get like, four times bigger than that on farms in China. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_giant_salamander It’s insane they’re the size of someone’s torso. And they’re full of orange goop. (I do not think people should know this it should have forever stayed a mystery, but it is what it is.)
I rly like going to see so many different kinds of farms Fish farming doesn’t have to be as gross as people commonly assume. Same tech keeps salamanders healthy. Very fishy lizards
Actually wait these are a completely different kind of fish lizard I’m tripping my apologies. I could test if they glow tho

I think I have been banned over Mamdani at least five times and the way you immediately get the cold shoulder + people following you around as soon as you say one word about it is remarkable. Lot of energy being wasted in that regard.
Oh good I was wondering if anyone else noticed this

World News@lemmygrad.ml•Megathread for the US war on Iran | Week 24 of 2026
1·1 day agoI think this is where a lot of the damage assessments on the western side have been in error. Because Iran started with military installations, Iron Dome radar/AA in gulf states (which can be quite remote an unpopulated I haven’t done a thorough search kinda assuming 🤣 fake ass countries), strategic targets in the middle of nowhere, it’s easy to deny everything outside of what can be misconstrued as terror bombing due to its proximity to population centers
Iran agreed to a ceasefire by the time they were just beginning to come around to targets like desalination plants. By my reckoning anyways, as the first priority is disarming them.

11·3 days ago[2026-06-09] PressTV – Trump acknowledges US attack helicopter crash near Strait of Hormuz
Expand article
US President Donald Trump has acknowledged that an American military attack helicopter has gone down near the Strait of Hormuz, confirming a relevant report issued amid Iran’s decisive retaliation against Washington’s incessant violations of a ceasefire with the Islamic Republic.
Trump made the remarks late on Monday local time, speaking to journalists at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
The comments came after The New York Times carried the report, saying the aircraft went down in the area of the strategic waterway earlier that day.
Citing two people familiar with the incident, the daily said it remains “unclear” what caused the incident.
It was not known whether the Apache helicopter had been shot down, suffered a technical malfunction, or gone down for some other reason, it added.
Trump, however, added, “The pilots are fine.” “Nobody injured. We are going to issue a report tomorrow.”
The US president announced the ceasefire on April 7 after at least 100 waves of successful Iranian retaliation in the face of the latest bout of unprovoked American-Israeli aggression targeting the Islamic Republic.
The announcement also followed Iran’s closing down the Strait of Hormuz to enemies and their allies. Tehran then proceeded to devise a new management mechanism for the strait and confront trespassing vessels.
Last month, a Congressional report said the American military had lost at least 42 aircraft during the aggression’s 40-day span, with estimated costs reaching billions of dollars.
The report, prepared for Congress using information from the US Department of War, United States Central Command, and military media outlets, estimated the total cost of the aircraft losses at approximately $2.6 billion.
According to the document, the losses included warplanes, surveillance aircraft, refueling planes, combat rescue helicopters, and drones.
Among the aircraft destroyed or damaged were four F-15E Strike Eagle warplanes, one F-35A Lightning II, one A-10 Thunderbolt II, seven KC-135 Stratotanker refueling planes, and one E-3 Sentry airborne warning and control aircraft.
The report also listed the loss of two MC-130J Commando II aircraft, one HH-60W Jolly Green II, 24 MQ-9 Reaper drones, and one MQ-4C Triton.
