I think that’s somewhat reasonable. The line between “sport” and “game” has always been kind of fuzzy. People often feel strongly that their preferred game is seen as a sport because it helps legitimize it as a pastime
I know chess for instance has often been considered a sport, but frankly I don’t really see it. I’ve also known people who say that as long as it’s on ESPN it’s a sport, which would mean poker and some video games are sports and that’s another one I have trouble with.
Although regarding video games, I do think they sometimes have a stronger claim than poker or chess. E-sports leagues can be highly competitive, technically challenging or strategic, and often require teams playing against each other. I still don’t think of them as a “sport” the same way as I would basketball, but in some contexts they do feel like more than a “game”
That’s almost pretty much what I’ve been trying to say throughout this charade. I think it’s down to how you define sport personally as, like I’ve said, it’s a human invention that everyone has an opinion on, not a fundamental universal definition that’s fixed.
