That’s the incredible thing when you build up a base of nearly brain-deads swimming in cognitive dissonance: You can say like: “He is very bad, because <random summary of morally wrong things you actually do>”, and your idiot followers will just stop at “he’s bad!” while only those with a working brain will hear the rest. And some of them might believe the lie and come to the conclusion that everyone is just as bad.
That’s the reason both sides bullshit is a working right-wing tactic. For everyone else this is an argument to give up voting while their own followers are filtering out every fact that does not fit their chosen view. “They are just as bad as we are!” only registers to their own voters as “They are bad!”. Because the “We are good” part is already a given in their damaged minds and so the other contradicting half of the statement just disappears.
