President Donald Trump told voters to pretend he was on the ballot in this year’s midterm elections.
They did. And they resoundingly rejected both his policies and his Republican Party.
Democrats have captured full control of Congress, NBC News projects, with voters delivering a forceful repudiation of Trump’s agenda, coupled with a clear-cut message that Congress has not done enough to provide checks on his administration and needs to do more to address affordability and corruption.
The danger for Democrats is them thinking this is an endorsement of the socialist democrat platform. It is not. This election was completely an anti-Trump anti-Republican election. If Democrats overstep, they will get slapped back next election. (just an opinion of course)
Dude what world is this comment from? The chances of the Democrats accomplishing nothing of note and losing because of it is like 300x the chances of the “overstepping”.
Looking at the overwhelming results, to me it very much looks like a complete repudiation of Trump and Republicans. I don’t see any particular policies or platforms from the Democrats voters explicitly embraced. The election was a rejection of trump and republicans, not an endorsement of Democrat platforms. What people want is affordability and a sane immigration policy.

Trump immediately throws the party under the bus and doubles down that he is the best ever. At least nixon seemed to care about his party. We can now hold the line, and he won’t get two, new, young SCOTUS Justices. That’s not nothing, but don’t expect Universal Healthcare or an end to the executive orders.
In two years we should oust the “centrist” Dems, even the ones we like, and replace them with the “radical left” DSA candidates. I’ll vote to replace Melanie Stansbury if a viable DSA candidate rises to challenge her. Fear of “splitting the vote” be damned.
this is the way. the primaries are the elections. republicans at every level violated or were derelict in their duty to stop violations of the constitution. voting republican is 100% anti american since trump started violating it as a matter of executive policy. Conservatives need to boot the republican party and form a new one that goes back to progressive pre nixon conservatism.
That would be what Democrats currently are (neoliberals). The Democrats have capitulated so much over the last 40 years, that the Overton window has shifted so far right that conservatives think Schumer, Biden, and Clinton are “radical left communists”.
The right will never come back to reason. The last decade has shown what they are. the right of the democrats are like that but there are progessive elements that are increasing that are not. So yeah the most right democrats would be typical or such a party and likely would move over honestly if such a thing came to pass. If such a thing did happen conservatives would find themselves in the strange position of seeming to be the more stable and responsible party rather than the party of nutters.

Trump has proved that you can’t do this bizarre dance we do in America where the constitution is vague and rickety and relies on jurisprudence, legislation, and unwritten norms, but simultaneously treats the governing documents as holy writ.

Yes, they can impeach (put Trump on trial) but they cannot remove him from office. They would need a supermajority of the Senate for that. Trump has already been impeached twice.
The only threat the Democrats have is to make the impeachment trial a public affair and present evidence of Trump’s wrongdoing. They cannot force him to testify under oath due to the Fifth Amendment. It will not do much good since Trump is not allowed to run for reelection.
the republicans have been dealt a massive loss and trump is reacting by throwing them under the bus. They have a massive deficit of good will with the people. There is a small chance they might actually vote to remove him from office and let him know. this is what happened with nixon. They let him know and he resigned to avoid being the first ever president to be removed from office.

If we can get the votes to remove him for crimes against the People, we should do so regardless of political expedience. If the office of the President is to ever have legitimacy again a criminal cannot be allowed to remain there if removal is an option.
