My extra spicy first pre coffee thought im response to Sam Altman’s viewpoint here: I imagine sam Altmans neighbors have bullets, just wasting their potential sitting in boxes. they yearn for the minds

      It’s America so yes.

Also, big tech can hire expensive lawyers and drag out the process for years. There is no justice when you have rich vs normal.

Might technically fall afoul of anti-spam legislation if you don’t respect unsubscribe requests, though I’m not sure if that’s specifically for commercial email in the US, and it’s not like unsubscribing from one instance of this would do much. Probably easy to filter, though.

In fairness, he says the remarks were taken out of context, posted “i want you to have so much ram”, and briefly went by Ram Altman on X. That makes this script a daily progress report.

Umm I read/watched the context and somehow the message does not change. Am I missing something?
Do I hallucinate or does he?

He definitely hallucinates, but I think what he might be trying to imply is that if they get more RAM in the data centers it’ll be easier to get more RAM for people and lower the over all cost? Which because of capitalism is obvious bullshit. But also, this is the guy that said AI will bring about the end of the world, so I suspect he wants more RAM to speed up that process.

LLMs have the basic decency to admit they were wrong when corrected. That places their humanity level above that of CEOs.

I am new, so be gentle? But is any part of his sentiment correct? From a societal change and/or national security for AGI development perspective the more RAM/data centers the quicker he achieves these goals which in his mind will up end computing and the human relation to computing. While yes I want to game, program, and use my own internet machine the faster we reach the tipping point he has envisioned the sooner none of that will matter.

The question is whether that goal is achievable. And the reason he has been lambasted is because most folks who k ow what’s what, do not think it is nearly as easy or achievable as he does.

Surely the best and most secure system is one with multiple levels of redundancy? Spreading RAM over a large area means that there is no one single point of failure / single target to attack. Everyone having their own AI would be the best end goal (assuming the technology ever actually starts to provide dividends).

I think in the mind of the tech bros there is this utopia where AGI would/could fix ALL problems.

You would then prompt AGI-GPT: “Hey we are low on RAM, please fix. No mistakes”. Immediately the AIs big brain would find a solution; hordes of autonomous robots swarm out and start working to build factories, mine resources, enslave humanity , build infrastructure… It would build cheap RAM for everyone!

        spoiler

Then Ram Altman wakes up from his dream and finds a wet spot in his pants.

Why would society allow or help this psychopath achieve his stupid goals? I want a Disneyland in my backyard, that goal is achievable, I deserve everyone’s money.

      AGI development

i don’t think it’s worth making our present worse as it is now for a hypothetical future utopia, even if the chances were quite high (they’re not).

People and the environment are suffering now because of big tech’s incessant rush for an AI singularity, expensive ram is only a small thing on a huge pile of grievances.

cute, and i love the sentiment, but unless it can actually waste sam altman’s money i’m not interested.

he has changed his user name on twitter to “ram altman”. he does not care about the jokes.

    Hi Sam,

I hear RAM is hard to come by these days, so it feels a bit rude to be sitting on 248.1 GiB of it. Total installed: 251.7 GiB. It’s not for sale, I just like knowing it’s there.

Stay allocated, A concerned RAM owner

Look how much money is wasted in billionaires. It would be far more useful with poor people who would actually use the money instead of hoarding it like dragons.

Surely if he needs RAM so badly he’d accept donations, right?

Is there anywhere he accepts large files? Because surely there’s some generous souls who would upload RAM to help him out

There’s also a RAM vinyl just sitting on my shelves, unused…

Yeah, why shouldn’t I listen to it again?
