Where do you see us going? Everything is shit and going to shit.

I honestly see no way out. Capitalism is never going to die. We are never going to get UBI. Unemployment is going to keep on rising. AI is just destroying jobs left and right. The wage gap keeps increasing. Consumption is ever increasing as well. More and more bullshit is created and bought. We are destroying the planet.

Let me get this out of the way: Humans fucking suck. In recent fascist vs moderately-left elections, you see fascists winning or the moderately-left winning by just 1 or 2 percent. See US and Brazil. How?

Look at what is happening in the past 2 days or so: Market is down with the Epstein donators going into the red. And I still see tons and tons of people saying “I will buy now! seems like a good time to buy!”. Absolute lunacy. Do people not understand that the only way to collectively win, is to not play their game, at all? Like, stop playing their fucking game.

How can we be so fucking bad? People seem to only care about themselves.

Anytime there is news about poor people receiving some sort of help, you see people making arguments such as “oh, I paid my taxes and now poor people are getting help and I am not? I should avoid paying my taxes so I also get help”. There is very little empathy, compassion and kindness. It seems like every human is in it for him/herself.

The rich keep breaking laws and nothing ever happens to them. Look at some recent hacks by OAI’s AI. Look at Epstein’s…everything. Look at AI companies just plainly stealing data from everywhere and everyone.

I have 0 hope. Maybe I just need to touch some grass, and hug some trees, while there are still trees around. They won’t be around for much longer, it seems… It appears we are waging a war on trees and nature.

We could, hypothetically, get our shit together. By that I mean, it is possible, it is not in the real of impossibility. We are not breaking any laws of physics. But it seems like we’d be breaking some biology laws? Is it in our genetic make up to be this fucking horrible? Is it just humanity and humans that will never allow us to cooperate for a better life?

Ya, sorry for the rambling.

I’m right there with you. For years I felt like I was going crazy because once you see it you can’t unsee it - but other people don’t always understand. Everywhere I look, I witness the predatory behaviour of the rich: usurpation of democracy, violation of privacy, union busting, pollution, planned obsolescence … The world is one big exploitation racket that has to grow exponentially, year after year, or it will collapse. It should be obvious that the notion of infinite exponential growth in a finite world is mathematically insane, but that is what capitalism seems to require. We are destroying life on earth so that we may continue growing exponentially until … what? Every square foot of this planet is either a warehouse, a Starbucks, or a data centre? And yet, people keep plugging along, trying not to see the problem, because facing it is too hard.

For me, I do what I can to make the world better. My impact is small and local, but it is not zero. I take walks. I look at the moon. I try to savour small things. I do fun things that don’t cost much: libraries, some sports, cycling.

I have a bit of fun with it, too: I take pleasure in denying Walmart or Amazon my money. I don’t buy used because I’m thrifty – I buy used because I am attacking the system. My mission: to keep my dollars out of their greedy fucking hands! Instead of feeling deprived when I refuse to update my phone, for example, I feel malicious joy. You want my email? Nope. Cookies? Denied!! Every petty way that I can find to oppose the predatory corporations becomes a delight. I don’t know where I first heard this, but someone wise once said, “Ask yourself, how can I be useless to capitalism today?”

And I vote. Sometimes I have to hold my nose, but I do it. 60% bad is better than 80% bad, and sometimes you only get those two choices at the ballot box. I save high ideas for primaries and leadership races; at the ballot box, I’m a pragmatist.

In the end, I remember that I am going to die. System collapse doesn’t change that. While I exist, I am going to see beauty, love people, and have fun to the greatest extent possible.

The future is unpredictable and times can go from hopeless to hopeful pretty quickly. One thing that gives me hope is that I’m young enough that most of the horrible people running the world right now will likely die before I do. There will be opportunities to change for the better.

      So true!

They are, on average, unhealthy old fucks.

Edit; But let’s keep turning out to protest and vote. I want to hear about the unhealthy old cancerous fucks dying during panic attack induced heart attacks, not lounging at their third mansion.

I am both young enough to know the current batch of old horrible people will die, but old enough to see the new breed of horrible people coming in to take their place.

Don’t stop trying to make the world a better place, make your voice heard. Vote, protest, rally, and push for what you believe in.

If you genuinely feel this lost and hopeless this close to such a huge election and are legitimately ignorant of all the reasons we should logically be optimistic right now…

It’s probably because of propaganda trying to depress turnout.

Except for like a month in 08 before Obama let us down, this is honestly the most optimistic I’ve been for America, fucking ever.

It’s gonna get worse, maybe a lot worse in the next three months. But over the next decade shit looks really good.

We’re pretty much guaranteed to get on some FDR type shit unless trump full on coups himself and tries to be a dictator.

So I’m optimistic, but people on the left are running out of time to arms ourselves for worst case scenario and far too many people still don’t own a single gun. Let alone a rifle, all the other gear, and the training to know what you’re doing.

    Edit:

And before anyone says “you can’t fight the military”:

    1. We can

    2. It wouldn’t be fighting soldiers and fighter jets, it’ll be the local brown shirt ICE agents for the vast majority of the country. Showing up to a protest with an AR and plates is what prevents fascist from escalating to violence, they won’t attack openly armed crowds, because they’re cowards.

For part 2, they would put a mole in the group, and create a situation where someone acts like they get hurt and shoot a blank or a 22 at a group of police with riot gear on. Then smear them as armed terrorists across all media use facial recognition and security around town to collect plates, track down their locations and arrest them individually.

If enough people do it, it would work still, but hundreds of people would go to jail first.

I imagine most people would turn on the protesters first though. As many companies would not want to be seen as supporting armed terrorists so they would actively fire people who get named or post on social media about supporting them.

It’s the only way to stop fascists from using violence against protesters…

If enough people do it, it would work still, but hundreds of people would go to jail first

Do you know what happens now?

        That shit…

The shit that’s you keep saying might, it already does.

So what difference does it make?

Armed protestsvhave a chance, that’s the only difference. Stop fucking acting like we can’t do something new because the fascists might do what they already do.

Fuck that stupid learned helplessness shit

We can’t. And if we could, I wouldn’t want to. Judge me however you like, I don’t want to live in a world where I have to kill others to survive. I’ll take death to that.

In the short term, a lot of things will get worse before they get better. But in the long run, I do believe it eventually gets better.

Progress has always trended forwards. Look at where humanity was 50, 100, 200, 300 years ago.

I want to see us go where France is headed. Nobody wants to accept that that level of resistance is what’s needed to make the people manipulating things actually see us at eye level. Until we do, it will be the same shit show where there are compromises made whilst those same decisions cause other bad things to continue. Then, this will all keep coming back to somebody removing what we made them put in place, and then we do this all over again because they still have a hold over us and that fear is what lets the corrupt 1% have their way.

It’s a very twisted and toxic way of keeping peace and order when we can just make them listen to us in the first place without us having to bend down to our knees for their enrichment.

I’m also still trying to figure out what’s happening in Poland. There seems to be a good bit of misinformation coming out of it. Like one side is claiming Tusk ordered police to break into the Tribuneral, meanwhile the person leading the Tribuneral said they called the police for defense and they were just outside, I never saw them entering the gates but I don’t know anything about the situation.

My hope is mostly utilitarian–there to put up a good front so I don’t discourage others.

I even do believe that humanity will survive. However, it’s pretty clear climate catastrophe will shift from having an indirect death toll in the hundreds of thousands to having a direct death toll in the tens of millions. It’s going to be extremely, extremely rough.

Here’s a bit of hope: people in the US have finally woken up to how truly terrible Trump and his buddies are. Only the worst morons and racists still support the whole MAGA idiocy.

At the same time, this crisis has also shown how utterly incompetent the established Democrats are, and as a consequence many democratic socialists are on the rise. Furthermore, California is voting over targeted tax on billionaires. Previously, it was enough to flood campaigns with money to stop any of this from passing, but thanks to people being so angry at Trump, there’s finally some hope.

I want to believe that if the people see what a good leadership can do for them, they’ll eventually see through the propaganda and start to vote in their own interests. At least the midterms should heavily favor democrats, and hopefully the spirit carries to 2028 as well (it would take Trump a miracle to reverse course at this point, so it’s looking good).

The thing I’m least optimistic about is the climate. We’ll survive that one too, but at what cost?

People are gonna get Kamala Harris in office and she’s gonna be the worst president ever because everyone expects the president to actually fix shit or People get Harris in office and she’s gonna be hte best president and everyone forgets that it was the local elections who did all the real hard work and the liberals will be lulled into a sleepy lazy dreamlike state and then will fuck up the 2032 and midterms.
