Parenting hits different when your intelligence is artificial
Siri, play Cats in the Cradle
This song fucked me up when my first was born.

Is this from Xwitter? And if so, why? Nothing on that platform is worthy of our time and attention.
-
Even if it isn’t Xwitter. This could be just a joke. Admittedly, not a good one. But a screenshot may not be enough to banish this father of the year.
- Yes
- It isn’t. He’s doubling down in the replies
Ooh, I’d love to see the followup
Screenshots, pls?
Thank you!
Lmao. I like how he responds that he’d rather spend the time cuddling his kid or playing or something important. It makes it obvious he’s never once read to his child before because they generally love to cuddle up and read and point and laugh and joke while reading. If you don’t think reading to your child is inherently a togetherness activity then you’re doing it wrong.
Also this was pretty funny: https://twitterviewer.net/u98755682/status/2108074061146603647

Increasing the reach of the mentals won’t do good to your mentals.
It feels really good to have those anti-role models around
I’m so glad AI is here to relieve me of the physically and mentally overwhelming task of checks notes spending time with my child.
More time left for what truly matters: creating shareholder value
Priorities
That these degenerates think this is an acceptable method of parenting illuowhy they shouldn’t have kids.
Fucking morons.
@[email protected] your future I guess but anarchic
I saw this on Reddit and saw everyone taking it seriously and thought “Ha, the lack reading literacy on this site is insane”.
But you guys are doing the same thing.
This is a parody guys. Calm down.
Poe’s law.
I’ve seen tech bros unironically argue that
- The sole purpose of art is the end product
- The objectively correct thing to do with a piece of human-made art that is not up to your standard of quality is to feed it through an image to image model to “improve” it so that it is up to a publishable standard
- Their LLM is better than them at their day job
- Resolving marital disputes by asking ChatGPT who’s right is an appropriate thing to do
- Letting an LLM answer every single email you get eliminates the need to read them yourself
- An LLM is sapient and has its own thoughts and opinions
- Making and eating food is a waste of time, and eliminating it from their day using meal replacement shakes feels “liberating”
In light of that, this isn’t too farfetched.
Connect your family calendars and explain your kids’ interests. Every morning for the drive to school, have it make a podcast that talks about one kid’s soccer game that afternoon, one kid’s upcoming birthday, some news, etc.

This is a parody guys. Calm down.
How are those of us who aren’t chronically online supposed to know some douche on Twitter is a parody account or not?
Because people like this guy literally exist in real life.
And seeing how often people take things way too seriously and jump at things out of context, it won’t surprise me that post will likely encourage others to do this. Monkey see, monkey do.
Honestly, Lemmy used to be a refreshing departure from Reddit when people were joining because they hated Spez for political reasons, but now people just hate ads and are miffed about the moderator upheaval. Lemmy is basically just ad-free Reddit with worse moderation now.
Overall, it’s still better than Reddit, but that’s a low bar. I’m starting to think that social media, federated or not, is a bad idea. We need to bring back topical forums and ban people for being off-topic and wrong.
I’m starting to think that social media, federated or not, is a bad idea.
Starting?
I miss the days of just simple message boards and shit.
Poe’s law teaches us that any satire, sufficiently advanced, is indistinguishable from sincerity.
-
The effectiveness of clever on other people is highly contingent on outside factors, over which you have no control and of which you may not have any knowledge; i.e., just because you intended to be clever doesn’t mean you will be perceived as clever, for all sorts of reasons.
-
The failure mode of clever is “asshole.”
How “advanced” the satire is is a sliding scale though, depending on the intelligence of the audience.
The medium of delivery also shifts the scale.
You’re also putting 100% of the responsibility for the communication being received as intended onto the receiver. The conveyer also has a (arguably larger) role to play in the successful conveyance of said sarcasm.
People don’t always understand poorly constructed jokes or satire, and that’s not a reflection of their intelligence (or lack thereof).

“Why would I bother enjoying life when I can just program a robot to enjoy life for me?”
These kids are gonna kill themselves. Don’t have kids if you don’t have time to spend with them.
Worked for Kal-el
Okay, as soon as our planet breaks apart in a world ending way, I’ll allow an AI voice to read kids bedtime stories
I thought this was satire, but it appears to be real.

Futurama just gets it
This is exactly what I came into the comments to see.
Same. If it wasn’t here, then I was just going to have to post it.
Man, I feel kinda sorry for that guy. He must have had terrible parents, if he perceives story time as a chore instead of an opportunity to bond with your child. He should probably get some professional help to work through his horrible childhood. Though his next tweet would probably be „I‘ve replaced my therapist with an AI and now I‘m even more confident that everyone else is wrong!“
Unfortunately the Asian parent stereotype is true for many Asian parents. Bet his mom still calls him a failure because his cousin is a doctor.
Its bonkers but some men are raised to believe that their role when not at work is to do as little as possible.
When my kids were in pre-k, there was a Donuts with Dad day where the fathers would come in to visit. I was appalled to see so many of the fathers just standing in a corner talking to each other, completely ignoring their kids rampaging around the room hitting each other with things. Like, your kid is beating on another kids and you’re not even glancing in that direction even after you were finally roused to tell him to stop 2 other times.
That poor kid, Imagine your own father thinks so little of you that he would rather spend 10X the time to train a clanker just so he doesn’t have to spend time with you.
I guessing some day he will be one of those oblivious assholes on facebook whining because his kids cut off contact.
“Dad, do you want to play catch?”
“Who are you? Oh, ohhhh…Best I can do is get one of those dog ball throwing machine things!”
“Ok Google, buy me a dog ball throwing machine”
