Multiple stories are also fine!!!

Doesn’t have to be one story.

Three summers back I was painting my house which is a miserable job especially because the walls of my house were deteriorating '70s pebble dash. Little rocks embedded in stucco kept falling out making a mess on the deck and getting stuck in vehicle tire grooves. The paint has kept them from sloughing off ever since. I went to a home hardware shop to get more paint since I underestimated how thirsty the walls would be. Dirty, overheated, and grumpy with my mind on the shitty task.

I was blasting Battle Beast in my silver 2011 Nissan Altima (yes the meme car) and apparently my parking job was so quick, immaculate, and confidently within the lines that I made a lady swoon. Or because a tall guy hopped out, who knows.

I was briskly walking towards the entrance across the sprawling baking-hot asphalt parking lot when she ran up behind to stop me and commented on my 1337 parking skillz. Now idk about you, but personally in my lived experience it’s extremely rare to have a stranger approach you in a parking lot unless they’re up to no good, begging, or mad at you for some reason.

So I immediately hedged because I figured the “compliment” was passive aggressive and maybe I just fucked up or something. I asked her if she was upset with me for some reason. She said no, and reiterated what she said which wasn’t helpful and I figured that might also be sarcasm. So we stood there staring at each other as I ran back the last few minutes desperately trying to figure out what I did wrong. Eventually I blue screened and just said “okay” and turned around to continue my paint resupply mission, unsure how to handle the extremely awkward encounter with an admittedly attractive-looking woman, who in hindsight I think was being genuine.

We managed to run into each other indoors and both of us intensely avoided eye contact or saying anything further. Amazing.

A friend of mine’s sister was making comments about me and asked if she could kiss me with her husband sitting right next to us. That was pretty fucking awkward.

Was working a summer job as a cashier and some girl comes in and asks for my number. I was surprised and blurt out “sorry got a girlfriend.” She was cute, but it all happened so fast. In hindsight, I should’ve given her my number, but my brain froze in shock.

My sister’s wedding. It was her now husband’s brother. While his wife and kids were there. I had to ask a cousin on our side of the family to basically act like a bodyguard because the dude would not stop trying to corner me.

I’m a bit dense. But at work. She was my work wife…

So yeah she helped me out a lot, helped me get a new place–it was her parents house. Got me a leafy connection which was also a connection to get goat milk, my ex-fiance was lactose intolerant. We would go shopping together after work. And at work we would talk a lot about sex stories. Went to her family reunion, with my ex-fiance in tandem; and other events. Drove me to work when my shitbucket didn’t work, with a coffee ready for me.

As I said, I’m a box of rocks. She told me she would dress up for work for me when she tried to kiss me when moving away. In a way, it kinda sucked that I missed that opportunity; I tried to do everything I could for my ex but it was a dead end; I didn’t know what to do. I stayed in that relationship because I couldn’t bring myself to dump her on the street. She didn’t want to go home to her family.

But hey, working retail is fun. Want a girlfriend or boyfriend? EZ

Can’t think of any odd places. Probably because I wouldn’t find being flirted with odd about anywhere. Not like women are all over me, but I see it as human nature for people to take their shot when they can.

Where I’ve fallen down is missing the flirt entirely or thinking a woman wasn’t conscious of what she was doing. Both, especially the latter, usually took me years to figure out.

Gf took me to her office one night. She was wearing white hose which turns my gears. She got on her tip toes to get something from the top of her cube, revealing that tiny strip of flesh between the pleated skirt and thigh highs. “Man, if she only knew what that’s doing to me.” News flash dipshist, she knew.

Work in EMS. Some guy tried to get my number while I was driving to the hospital with him in the passenger seat and my paramedic, his girlfriend, and sick baby in the back of the ambulance.

I had a drunk sunburned warty redneck try to give me a ride in his pickup truck. We were riding the tram back to the Disney World parking lot. He was very loud and insistent, much to the horror of the rest of the high school marching band mates around us, but he left without incident before we had gotten back to our buses. Someone let me know after he left that his fly had been open the entire time.

It was a very confusing experience for 16 year old introverted (male) me.

Some guy speaking to me was a bit uncomfortable because he kept getting very close. The conversation seemed normal until he asked what I think of black people, which I thought was kind of weird. Only much later I realized he was hitting on me and he meant to ask if I’m physically attracted to him, a black guy. Nobody ever flirted with me before and I definitely didn’t expect it from a guy so it was much later when I realized what happened

I was 15 years old and on a schooltrip to Berlin. We smoked some weed at the hostel and i got high as fuck. I stepped into the elevator to go to my room to chill and this girl from a different class followed me. In the elevator she straight up asked me if i would like to go to her bunk for some fun and i was like “nah, im too high for that right now.” i was such a dumbass in my teens.

There was an ex-friend whom would always follow me around, and before a quiz I had been studying for days by doing programming exercises, while he played on his phone or scrolled TikTok.

He tried confessing after bragging how he didn’t get caught cheating using AI on the test (as many were), right after I used like 100% of my brainpower to do what I could on that test. I could only reject him and was not able to give my full reasoning as to why I couldn’t enter into a relationship as I had to enter a bus because we were at the bus stop.

Some weeks later he started not giving a shit about me, started doing this weird thing where he would wait for me to finish a quiz before passing his own and then he’ll try to walk fast ahead in front of me and not stopping to talk as we did, when it started getting clear I wouldn’t get into a relationship. Unfriended me on facebook and I never saw him after the end of the school.

'twas fucking horrible, when I already told him I had trauma from being suddenly abandoned by my friends. I only wish I never knew him at all, what a waste of time and I never learned anything, only had my trauma reinforced. I have never felt so much hatred and loathing in my life, and I understood why Dante put the sin of being a traitor at the lowest circle of hell.

This is a pretty standard reaction to your friendzoning. Guys are friendly to get to start a relationship, no relationship means no more effort, they are done.

See, that’s the dumbest thing to me. It takes no time to be up front with people about your intentions and it vets out the people that aren’t available for it. Then spending all this time with someone and not being cool with just friends is fucking dumb. Why even try if you’re going to bail?

Never heard of starting out as friends before dating? Most autistic people i know(myself included) go friends first before relationship.

I am literally right there beside you, Neurodivergent with my two best friends being being failed romances. But that’s the point I’m making, when it turned out we weren’t going to smooch I didn’t stop being their friend. If anything it reaffirmed our platonic relationship.

Not graceful and not classy is complaining about others who don’t want anything to do with you.

And what’s wrong with sharing my experience? I wish I never met him and that I’ll never meet him forevermore. What a waste of time and I wish I never gave him my trust, I wish I wasn’t ever vulnerable with someone I thought was a friend if he was going to use it against me. I wish by some manner of sorcery that he will truly never ever recall me or the personal things I told him about.

Coward he also is. He also tried to ask me out on what obviously is a date but tried to make it seem like it wasn’t. I would never want to be in a romantic relationship with deceptive and dishonourable people. It made me wonder why I allow myself to be friends with them in the first place.

    Two come to mind.

I was twelve, but most people thought I was ~16 due to my height and the fact that I had hit puberty at 10, so I was definitely developed. As I am walking home (three mile walk to school) a highschool girl sees me, quickly crosses the street and begins to chat me up. After a few minutes she finally asks what grade I was in. After I told her, she went quiet and quickly picked up her pace, eventually crossing the street again. I still find that funny.

The second was in 2010, during my grandmothers wake. I did not find that funny.

Maybe not the worst, but I called into HP server tech support and the girl on the other end was chatty. I wasn’t too busy and she talked me up for nearly an hour and a half, at the end asking if I was single and lived near Michigan.

Good on her for shooting her shot.
