Same goes for shit like CO2, my fave is the CO2 tanks with Bev grade CO2 that were formerly Nazi or US Army tanks from WW2

Oldest CO2 tank I’ve seen in rotation was from 1932.

The US ones still say US Army just painted over, the Nazi ones still have their swastikas just with a few extra bits punchd to make it not a swastika and more of a window shape.

It is fun to ponder how the hydrogen from the very start is in us now, and was in comets, dinosaurs and giant trees that died long ago and gave up their elements that could be in us now. As wise people said, “You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop” and “We are a way for the universe to know itself… on this pale blue dot.”

“You are the cosmos made conscious” - Brian Cox

“…you’re not something that’s a result of the big bang. You’re not something that is a sort of puppet on the end of the process. You are still the process. You are the big bang, the original force of the universe, coming on as whoever you are.” - Alan Watts

“Allow yourself to fantasy that you’re 13.8 million years old And you’re part of this incredible ocean of happening Instead of just this one individual Just let yourself experience that for a second The glorious knowledge that you are a never-ending, ever-changing flow of matter that’s temporarily manifested with the ability to express love” - Dunkin Trussel

And anything heavier than iron (IIRC, it’s late here) is only formed when a star dies.

The more violent the death, the heavier more exotic shit gets created, as a rule.

True of literally everything in life. It’s just our turn to hold matter in this form and experience consciousness. Our planet is a virtually closed system wherein everything is recycled.

(Yes, I know we get water from comets, and perhaps even biological material from asteroids, etc., but in the relatively short term, all of that has been incorporated and we’re living in a virtually closed system.)

606024=86400*3=259.2 mtons of hydrogen and meh im too nonsober to type that into a calculator twice so 5ish mtons of hehe? TBH I hedged my bets in the prefix to tons above, but this is an order of magnitude more than I figured. And with that ratio I’m sure hydrogen and helium are 99.999999% of that mass too.

The universe is an engine that converts hydrogen to helium, and we are the pollutants caused by the imperfections of the engine. All hail nuclear fusion, for it is light. Let it burn bright, for the ratio of fuel to exhaust is already 3:1, and one cannot bring back the purity of hydrogen once it is spent. Live for the dying of the light!

I love this and will be stealing it! Really puts Sagan’s “we are all made of stardust” in quite a different context 🤣

I have a couple plastic milk jugs of water somewhere full of water that I have had for years, maybe decades. Probably not safe to drink at this point, but that is a long term acquisition.
