Seriously. People are all materialistic vapid assholes, billionaires rule the world and we’re letting them because we’re so fucking lazy and busy with following shithead influencers and taking selfies of our fake happiness.
The planet is on the brink. Is this it? I see dogs in the park… So pure hearted it hurts knowing they are stuck with us. With owners that leave them alone all day and walk them for a few minutes to make themselves feel better. They all have purebred dogs too because they use them as a fashion statement or what ever.
King Pedohile is threatening the whole world and again, we’re just letting him.
How did we get here? Is it because of our big fucking brains?
In the beginning the Universe was created.
This had made many people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.― Douglas Adams
Mindless evolution cannot know what it has created. Unfortunately it makes things like carnivores, viruses, parasites, etc. Life eat life planet for the animals. Or feasts on the corpses. Humans showed up after all the competing two legged competitors got wiped out leaving only us, a mix of everyone we could breed with included. We have a gradient of different types of minds some of which are violently incompatible with the others, some of which are objectively detrimental to all living things while they live and breathe. The rich and powerful that always end up in charge have been the same the entire time and are rarely defeated for long. Another point: We have private mail of various Pharaohs from ancient Egypt. Look at how greedy and self interested they all are, with huge egos which are easily injured:
One of which is begging the Pharaoh for gold so intensely, that it started to remind me of:
Give orange me give eat orange me eat orange give me eat orange give me you
Same as it ever was.
The pharaohs weren’t generally this greedy.
Some aren’t even in that video, I mean more so the ppl sending letters to them lol.
A lot of things do suck, but for me at least it’s important to focus on what actually sucks and what I think sucks because I’m angry at other things.
Having issues with this state of capitalism we’re in is fair, it’s a legitimate problem and affects everyone. Even non-capitalist proponents of capitalism feel the effects, but when they look for the source of their pain their vision gets redirected away from the capitalists.
But feeling frustrated with people bringing their dogs to the park is a waste of your energy. I get this way too, I understand it, but you’re going to wear yourself down.
My unsolicited advice is to try really hard to find something positive to grab onto. Dogs for example. Find a way to enjoy the pure heartedness of dogs and mentally don’t let it touch the problems with humans. Treat it as a sort of pressure release valve when your frustrations with capitalism start to expand in scope, something that you keep simple and straightforward and positive.
That way your anger stays focused.
Thank you.
Lower trust.
Ever experience the difference between a low trust society and a high trust society? At one point in my life, I would bring my car in for an oil change and I’d bring new oil too, because I couldn’t trust the mechanic to not fill my car up with waste grease from the restaurant next door to save a buck. I would, of course, also watch them do the work to make sure they didn’t just steal my good oil and fill it up with waste grease anyway.
Then I moved to a high trust society. Suddenly, I was just a paranoid motherfucker, because who would try to screw you over in such a dumb way?
I imagine that people getting out of prison have similar experiences. Prisons tend to be low trust societies, where everyone has an angle. Then you get out, and you have to get used to the idea that everyone isn’t, in fact, trying to screw you over for their own benefit.
High trust societies are starting to run into low trust issues.
You make a really interesting argument. Thanks for the food for thought, you really articulated something I’d never put into words and I appreciate that.
Conservatives.
Capitalism.
Runaway capitalism. The ones with the most money spend it on ads and super PACs and candidates and lobbyists to draft laws and influence politicians to enable them to get more money and power at the expense of everyone else. Then, when no one has any money, they raise prices, layoff workers, cut services, and merge companies to keep it going…
materialistic vapid assholes
My sister earns 2.5 the national average. Her husband even more. They’re late 30s, own an apartment which they paid off years ago.
She complains that she’s poor and has to spend hours (and does) in various supermarkets to find the cheapest groceries.
She wants to buy a house that literally only the 1% can afford and she’s outraged she can’t afford to pay for it without making a loan.
She works in IT and didn’t even go to university for it. Imagine earning 2.5 the national average without a college degree in what isn’t even a management role or anything special, and complaining that you’re underpaid with the passion of a single mother of 3 who has to work two minimum wage jobs to raise her children. And no, my sister doesn’t even have pets. She simply gets to keep all her money.
She has less reason to complain than others… when viewed from the outside. People have only themselves as reference (and potentially a closer circle of people that are in similar positions).
But let’s ignore that for a second and zoom out more: if you look at the truly wealthy and how incomprehensibly more money they have, also your sister is poor. It’s not her vs you or the average, it’s us against billionaires.
As long as you have to work, you are not rich. No matter how much you earn.
Some life sucks and there’s are bad things happening, but it sounds like you’ve been on the Internet too much and got bad world syndrome. Might be time to detox and actively try to focus on good things around you. If you gotta go online watch stuff about uplifting news, that stuff never gets covered nor talked about enough. Right now your brain is wired and primed for threats and bad things and you need to widen your scope a bit.
my therapist says i need more pills when i start talking like that
That seems like a bad thing to say. Maybe more therapy but more pills?
the pills are very very expensive.
But they come with a free frogurt!
AND THEY’RE MAKING RICH PEOPLE WHO MAKE THEM EVEN MORE RICH!!!
(sorry for yelling)
The pills help you get to and better adapt to what is discussed in therapy.
What is being discussed uses language that was decided by the same DSM that up until a few decades ago labeled homosexuality as a mental illness and caused Turing to be chemically castrated with the same estrogen that trans people line up for today, and then to kill himself over the violation of his bodily autonomy, and then to be stamped on £50 bills as a retroactive apology. That’s what’s being discussed.
Language is used to pathologize people for seeing things objectively. Systemic critique gets converted into personal failure. If you look at how the anglosphere operates through language you’ll realize that 99% of English serves the grammatical purpose of shifting the blame downwards and to pathologize people with thought-terminating clichés that imply that their own “free will” (which can’t be proven to exist and which the elite doesn’t believe in) is the root of their problems. Not the material conditions. But your reaction to them. Obviously. Because it’s never material conditions created by a person who can be punched, it’s always something wrong with you specifically. And with an ever-increasing proportion of the world population, apparently. The rise of depression is proof that the therapist class is doing a shit job at healing people, mostly because if they heal you they can’t pay their mortgage anymore; and besides it’s not like they can actually fix capitalism so they just sell you copium and tell you that you should be glad to be huffing it.
So in conclusion: why does everything suck? Because language is captured so thoroughly that you can’t even express the plain truth that your eyes observe without being categorized as something that can be used to reduce you to a manageable stereotype. So you internalize the stereotype and wonder why the cognitive dissonance you’re feeling hurts so much, and then you’re billed hourly to cope with it.
In order to succeed and be happy you don’t need therapy, you need lawyers who can litigate semantics and threaten people until they give up and leave you alone. Impunity is happiness for the untouchable.
TL; DR
depressive realism and the power of language, in a nutshell
its human greed. its our fatal flaw…the inability to let go the raw animal instinct of greed.
that is the single common thread with all of humanities failures.
do we deserve to move off this planet if we cant solve the empathy problem? Id say no.
Humans can be greedy, yes. But capitalism incentivises that greed, and empowers those who are the most greedy. Greed is a problem. But capitalism is THE problem.
youre just adding layers that dont need to exist. “capitalism” is a logical construct of human activity. i dont see a reason to extrapolate in the one of a thousand ways humans suck… “capitalism”? how random.
You’re operating from a known bias called capitalist realism, in which capitalism is assumed to be a natural, organically arising system. It’s not. It’s a constructed system, deliberately crafted by greedy people, for greedy people. And it’s not a “random” observation on my part, people have been saying this basically since capitalism was invented. The profit motive of capitalism rewards those who are willing to be the most relentlessly greedy, and the mechanism of competition means that those greedy people eventually will own everything. More greed equals more expenses cut on safety, quality, and wages, expenses cut means more profit, more profit means more power in capitalism, more power means you are more capable of winning in the marketplace, winning in the marketplace means it’s even easier to win again, and again and again until it snowballs out of control and we’re stuck with a monstrous monopoly and the enslavement of the working class. Capitalism is the problem.
i think youre operating from out of context for the thread.
i feel op is lookin for root cause not implemented root cause, but clearly you have your own agenda.
The root cause is capitalism. Everyone being materialistic, billionaires ruling the world, the climate on the brink of collapse- all of OP’s concerns are caused directly by capitalism. Under capitalism, the only thing that matters is the endless accumulation of wealth. Human wellbeing and environmental sustainability both take a backseat to the profit motive.
“To look at people in capitalist society and conclude that human nature is egoism, is like looking at people in a factory where pollution is destroying their lungs and saying that it is human nature to cough.” -Andrew Collier.
so freakin dense.
the failure of every freakin ‘ism’ that exists, that has ever existed has at its root cause; human greed not able to constrained to the rules of the system. im referring to a raw human trait. a fucking personality defect. not a specific implementation, such as the single one you guys are all entirely fixated on, capitalism.
does it suck? yep. so do ALL OF THEM, becuase human greed inevitably fucks it , all… up.
but go ahead and keep railing how special captialism is for some reason, but jesus go open a new thread about it… cuz youre out of context here
I’ll offer one more reply, then I’ll let you have the last word, since I see we’re already arguing in a circle.
Yes. Human greed is a problem no matter what system we live under. You’re correct when you say that. But what I’m saying is only capitalism incentivises and rewards greed in the way we see today. I have explained how it does so in my comments above. Greed is a problem, capitalism exacerbates that problem in a unique and profoundly destructive way.
Unchecked capitalism. It really isn’t any more complex than this.
you got the commie wiped outlook on life like op
i’m sure you guys will figure out how to change the world for the better or if you stay in the cult i guess not
best of luck lol
The two alternatives: unchecked tubrocapitalism or literally Stalin…
How the fuck do you jump from “criticising the status quo” to the other extreme?
Dude lives on the authoritarian spectrum lol
Thank god economical architectures are more binary than gender.
You’re a Tankie or a Nazi, all else banned.
All capitalism is unchecked capitalism eventually, since the capitalists will always have an advantage in propaganda and be able to buy the government, even if it’s just a little at a time at first.
who could have predicted that rewarding psychopathic traits would lead to having psychopaths in charge? 🤔
Your mentality shapes your perception of the world around you. Improve your mental health and you will be less cynical.
You can’t change the world for everyone, but you can change the world for individual people. Simple acts of kindness go a long way in this regard.
In general sure. But op is right. Everything sucks.
Simple acts of kindness
I have very few downvotes, but you can have this one. Bless your heart! May the Lord be with you! 🥹
So dogs actively playing in a park makes you think about how their owners must stuck and leave them indoors? That’s a you problem bud. There are very real problems in this world, but it seems you can’t even see a good thing without twisting it into a bad thing. You should get some help with that.
Help that I can pay for at a rate of about 200$/hr? That I’ll give to someone who’s holding my dog friend prisoner? No thank you… Bud.
Capitalism is a cancer that eats itself. That was always true, but the can that the boomers kicked down the road has become an avalanche that will crush all of us. The billionaires know this but think they can still make their lieftimes cozy with enough money (which is all they really care about).
There’s a video showing what Bhutan changed into after TV was introduced into their country. Turns out consumerism is an incredibly powerful and manipulative force. Humans essentially have no defense against it.
